Poll question: If you had to choose......
It seems our representatives in Washington are asking the American People to choose between Impeachment and an end to the war. I think both are obtainable. But if we have to choose which will it be?

1. Impeach the muuhfoookuhs.
The war will not end even if all our troops come home. Iraqis will hate us for the next hundred years.

2. If impeaching (and much needed and deserved criminal charges)
doesn't end the "war" of lies, then what does that say about our government?

We get rid of the liars and war criminals but then continue their criminal "war"?

For me, such is a false choice based on lies.

Pretending the "war" isn't a direct result of the criminals in office legitimizes the lies and the liars.

They aren't separate issues...Bush Inc brought us Iraq with their criminal actions.

It is a lie to pretend otherwise.

13. But the damage they did to the American Constitution will live on...
...unless remedied by the punishment of the guilty.

4. Both.
It's why I worked my ass off in 2006 to elect as many Democrats as possible.

If neither happens, I will work just as hard to UNelect every one of the faux-Democrats who sat on their arses and let Bush's term run out.

I mean it.

6. You worked under false pretenses in the first place, quite frankly.
Democratic leadership never made any kind of promise that they would impeach Bush. They promised that they would investigate until the earth's end, and I believe they absolutely are holding up that end of the bargain, but for you to impose such ridiculous sanctions on them for something they'd never agreed to do in the first place is absurd.

As far as the war is concerned, let me save you the trouble - the war will not end, no matter what Congress does. Bush has already said he's going to stay in Iraq to the end of his tenure, no matter what. Even if we pulled funding for the war, which is NOT representing the will of at least 60% of the American people I might add, he's got plenty to keep the troops there until the end of his term. Further, even if we were to pass laws that say we have to withdraw troops, Bush can invoke his powers of Commander-in-Chief and still keep them there as long as he wants.

All of that said, Democrats DID pass a bill that would have put a timetable for withdrawal in place. You might have noticed that bill was vetoed. That will happen to every bill Democrats pass to that effect, and we will not be able to override that veto until enough Republicans jump ship, which is to say, not until Satan has to wear a parka and starts making snow-angels in hell.

You can decry me as an apologist all you want, but those are the facts. The Democrats can't do shit with this President and with this slim majority, and we all knew it going into November. We all knew it was going to be gridlock with a slim majority and the power of the veto in play. It seems many around DU have conveniently forgotten that lately.

7. Both would be a good thing; but from the point of view of the world at large...
definitely the War in Iraq. It's a life-and-death matter with thousands of people being killed, and it is also a focus for world terrorism, thus threatening further lives.

9. We need to fix the constitutional abuses before we have any hope of ending the war.
If we end the war and leave an imperial Presidency it matters not. A new war will spring up.

11. Leaving that chimp in office brings with it dangers beyond just this war
He is doing damage as we speak to our nation and our rights. He will impede every step taken to end the war. Getting rid of him and his cronies is the only action that can result in any good.

At this point, I don't care if they flip a coin to decide. Just pick one and DO IT, assholes!

14. End the war
There is no way those over there now will get home earlier then expected but perhaps we can stop their replacements from going or from them having to do yet another tour.

Impeachment will take a long ass time, the senate won't convict, and the war will still be going strong.

From a purely logical point of view I have to go with "End the War" even through in my heart I really, really, want those monsters out of the WH.

I have a brother on the ground in Iraq (Navy), traveling between 6 bases, doing a job that was an Army job before now. I know that no matter what he won't be home before November, but I think this congress can do something about making sure this ends before he has to go back.

Our congress just needs to pound it into the heads of the republicans that allowing * to be a dictator usurps their power and makes them useless. Accomplishing that is the only way to stop bush before he is out of office and the only way to make impeachment even remotely possible.
