More than 100 supporters cheered anti-war activist Cindy Sheehan when she called for the impeachment of President Bush and Vice President Dick Cheney at a Richmond rally yesterday.

Sheehan, a controversial voice against the Iraq war, whose son, Casey, was killed in Iraq in 2004, appeared at Byrd Park yesterday afternoon. No one spoke or demonstrated in opposition to her appearance.

Sheehan appeared in Lynchburg on Thursday and in Charlottesville on Friday.

In Lynchburg, a group supporting the troops appeared at the rally, which was cut short by a thunderstorm, according the Lynchburg News & Advance.

As Sheehan started to briefly address the crowd, Angita Szelesta of Monroe, who said she has a son serving his second tour in Iraq, stepped in front of her and shouted: "If this isn't the America you love, what are you doing here?"

Others yelled "Go home!"

In Charlottesville, Sheehan spoke before several hundred people, most of them against the war, The Daily Progress reported.

Members of the Albemarle County chapter of the Republican Party organized a counter "pro-victory" demonstration, which started outside the Paramount Theater and ended with the two demonstrations mixing. Though much smaller in number, the counterdemonstrators were just as vocal. The combined rally was peaceful, and police reported no incidents.

1. Support Bush or his "war"? Then you support the death of everyone involved
...and it really is just that simple

You support the destruction of America.

and you are a fool

2. "Though much smaller in number . . ."
"The counterdemonstrators got just as much media coverage because they're so fair and balanced."

Yeah, I remember the millions demonstrating against the war, and all the "balanced" coverage we got four years ago from our fair and balanced media: Opinion in the popular media ranged from "Nuke 'em today" to "Give Saddam a week to comply with some vague, unspecified ultimatum, then nuke 'em."

3. Isn't it odd that to support the troops you can only be a war
mongeler. You can't be someone who wants peace. I just don't understand why this is so. It seems to be from the very beginning if you really truly supported the troops you would bring them home.

4. Supporting the troops is why I opposed the war
from the first I heard about it.
