Do you suppose Impeachment is off the table because of 08? |
|
I think we all know that ShrubCo would push every single demand from Congresss during an imp. hearing into the Courts! If I remember right, Nixon only did it once (re: the tapes), but THIS CROWD would calim EP and defy every subpoena issued! Like it or not, THAT TAKES TIME! Shrub knows he has the SCOTUS on HIS SIDE, so they can drag out their decisions or just flat out side with the WH!
I was thinking about this last night. We are only 15 months from the 08 Presidential election. Do you think our candidates have asked Nancy NOT to Impeach because of how that would overshadow the campaigns?

13. Dragging out all of Bush/Cheney's crimes |
|
will not make the GOP look good, now will it? Besides, I'm more interested in the rule of law than any political party. Once we've established that the Executive can do whatever the hell it wants with total impunity, who's to say a Democrat won't also abuse the office?

it was not an easy decision on where to sit with this....I also wish to gain a majority at our Ohio Statehouse...Impeachment will also suck out the oxygen there as well. O8)

18. I just think there's no point in worrying about any election |
|
if the President is an emperor unto himself. Your 'oxygen' metaphor isn't doing anything for me on that point.

It is possible that is one of the reasons. Have you heard word one from any of the candidates about Waxman/Leahy/Conyers investigations? I haven't.

5. Impeachment is off the table because Nancy is scared..... |
|
I think this is what she's scared of I think this is what they are all scared of with the exception of Kucinich/Conyers and a few other brave souls.
"If Congress moves to impeach them now, it is very possible that they will attempt a coup d'etat ."
Those in the know in the Democratic party know this
to be the case I believe and they are hoping against hope
that Bush\Rove\Cheney\Gonzales will go quietly
because of an electoral defeat in 08.
Anyone who has watched these people operate for any length of time
knows this will not be the case.

'08 doesn't make much sense, since impeachment would help the dems in '08.

9. I think key Dems fear that there would be a backlash to impeachment |
|
procedings. While I believe that bushco deserves far worse than impeachment, I can see the stategy of winning the election. We Dems don't need to repel many of the middle of the roaders who are leaning our way. That's the only reasoning I see in the "off the table" arguement.

Stupid political strategizing at the expense of our Constitution freedom and our rights and our soldiers.
They took an oath to defend the Constitution. Seem to be more concerned about their fortunes and careers.
Gov of the corporations, by the corporations, and for the corporations. . .is completely untenable, unacceptable, and thoroughly unsustainable.
and unAmerican.

Get used to it because that's the way it's gonna be from now till eternity. Bushco made damn sure of that, so as far as I'm concerned, the Dems ought to impeach just on principles alone.

They can't get away with this crapola forever.
We will fall like every imperial power through recorded history. . .through our own hubris.

they're thinking about the effect impeachment would have on the elections, as well as on votes in Congress, such as Iraq-related votes.
