I am now on board with Impeachment
I had stayed pretty silent on the issue, and avoided the dreaded "I" threads.

However, after reading the excellent editorial by Jimmy Breslin, posted by KPete, I have come off the fence and would like to add my voice to the Impeachment chorus.

I wasn't against it because of the myriad of excuses presented by our leadership -- the words "PRESIDENT CHENEY" just sends chills down my back.

Hell, just the idea of it sends me into a panic.

You can imagine my angst over the weekend when that unimaginatively evil bastard was in office for just a couple hours.

One very interesting, remarkable passage from Breslin's article:

It opens with the appointing of an investigator to report to the House on evidence that calls for impeachment. He could bring witnesses forward. That would be all you’d need. Here in the impeachment proceedings against Richard Nixon came John Dean. His history shows how far down the honesty and honor of this country has gone. Dean was the White House counsel. Richard Nixon, at his worst, never told him not to appear or to remain silent in front of the Congress. Dean went on and did his best to fill prisons. After that came Alexander Butterfield, a nobody. All he had to say was that the White House had a taping system that caught all the conversations in the White House. Any of them not on tape were erased by a participant.

The same is desperately needed now. Curious, following the words, an investigator - the mind here sees George Mitchell and Warren Rudman, and you name me better - can slap a hand on the slitherers and sneaks who have kept us in war for five years and who use failing generals to beg for more time and more lives of our young. A final word in September? Two years more, the generals and Bush people say.

Say impeachment and you’ll get your troops home.

2. Well, then.
Welcome. That probably sounds funny coming from a freshman DU poster, such as me. But welcome to the "I" side! :hi:

4. Impeachment is way too good for the likes of bush and cheney
Edited on Mon Jul-23-07 02:21 PM by BOSSHOG
Because of their deeply held values they would not possibly give a fuck about any moves to impeach them, but if they were to have war crimes started against them, fair trials with just verdicts, with brand new gallows built in front of the court house, that might get their attention, because that is what they deserve.

bush, and possibly cheney will be headed to Paraguay right after the next inauguration.

However my Dear Catwoman if congress were to pursue Impeachment I would kick up my heels, if only for the incredible pain it would cause the flag waving bastards who have been complicit in the crimes for years.

7. We don't recognize the International Court
and they don't have the death penalty either, but 20 in jail for those two is worst than death

But until we recognize the court, fat chance with these two... and impeachment is a necessary step anyway

8. Welcome to the light.
It's almost imperative at this late date to do so to save our Constitution and our Republic. If Congress ignores their obligation to begin hearings, we might as well consider this Republic DOA.

I cannot accept any of the reasons given not to impeach up to this day as valid. They are only excuses by a group of politicians worried about re-election. I think they ought to worry more about re-election if they don't do it.

11. Welcome, CatWoman
Impeachment is the right thing to do. The process either proves or disproves crimes have been committed. Either way, the American people are better off.

Impeachment needs to be done because it is the right thing to do. :hi:

17. After my post a few minutes ago, I too am now convinced
Edited on Mon Jul-23-07 02:30 PM by panader0
Nadineb and others convinced me that a trial for war crimes may be impossible. While impeachment may be a distraction or even drive some middle of the road voters away, it's the right thing to do. My problem is that, as BOSSHOG said above, its too good for them and has no real teeth. I'm still keeping my "Jail to the Chief" bumper sticker though.
