FEMA knew of Formaldehyde levels 75x too high in Katrina Trailers
http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/article/2007/07/19/AR2007071901039_pf.html

The Federal Emergency Management Agency since early 2006 has suppressed warnings from its own field workers about health problems experienced by hurricane victims living in government-provided trailers with levels of a toxic chemical 75 times the recommended maximum for U.S. workers, congressional lawmakers said yesterday.

On June 16, 2006, three months after reports of the hazards surfaced and a month after a trailer resident sued the agency, a FEMA logistics expert wrote that the agency's Office of General Counsel "has advised that we do not do testing, which would imply FEMA's ownership of this issue."

Three trailer residents who testified before the panel described frequent nosebleeds, respiratory problems and mysterious mouth and nasal tumors that they or family members have suffered. They also said veterinarians and pediatricians have warned that their pets and children may be experiencing formaldehyde-related symptoms.

1. I will never forgive or forget what my own country did.
So these sorry pieces of shit who watched people drown for days on Faux News, finally help by giving you a toxic motherfucking 500 sq foot trailer.

Dont test it cause then it will be our problem... I could scream forever. I could pull every hair out of my head.

2. Okay, how hard is this explanation to believe?...
Edited on Mon Jul-23-07 02:44 PM by Atman
Some brother or cousin or other relative of some BushCo insider was stuck with a fuckload of trailers it couldn't sell because of the insane Formaldehyde levels. So he went to a wine and cheese handshaker with his DC buddies and convinced some douchebag to buy all his fucking useless cancer trailers and maybe he contributed a few thou to the campaign fund, too.

Anyone who spends ten minutes looking at the FEMA trailer fuck up knows that something is seriously, seriously wrong here.

I'm 48. Those pictures made me cry. Bush has made me so ashamed of what our country has become.

15. My god, what a great set of pictures
Each one is heartrending. The one that made me cry was the one on the rooftop, "The Waters Are Rising" and the people waving American flags. Sweet Jesus, could I be any more ashamed of what my country did to its own.

Of course another aspect that your pictures make crystal clear: the people trapped were mostly black. I said it from day one, the government chose to make it a police action against the victims, rather than a rescue action for our own citizens.

Thanks for posting those.

12. I do
Bush quickly responded to disaster in FL, just as expected. And sent help to save cows in CO way quicker than to save people in LA. America and Bush will respond real quick when their are Republican voters or office holders involved.
BTW, I got a headache staying on a FEMA trailer in NOLA last spring, and this was just for a few days.

20. well I surely didnt expect what we got, i know that.
Screaming at a tv for four days, at horrific shit they claimed to not even know about.

If we as a state would have been getting our coastal oil revenues like Texas does, we wouldn't have been in this boat. There would have been money decades ago for nothing but the levees. Instead the federal gov has been robbing LA for countless years.

shame and embarrassment.

11. Didn't they just ship a bunch of toxic trailers to an impoverished
Native American reservation? The trailers had been parked, unused, and were sinking into the mud. I swear I read something about them being shipped north for people to live in. What horrible, horrible, sad photos.

and they're trying to give the problem to Native Americans. x(

18. Criminal Negligence, indeed.
Accountability?
It seems it's just added to the long list of crimes.
And I think the person you mention in your SIG line probably bears more culpability in the end, for this as well as many more atrocities these past few years. Dismantling once effective government offices like FEMA and placing cronies like Brownie in charge paved the way for disaster.

19. "They now admit that they're trying to kill us,"
"and have been for a while."

http://ashleymorris.typepad.com/ashley_morris_the_blog/2007/07/reparations-dam.html

Henry Waxman: Another FEMA official wrote, the office of general counsel has advised ‘We do not do testing, because it would imply FEMA’s ownership of this issue.’ Early in the process, due to the perseverance of a pregnant mother with a four month old child, FEMA did test one occupied trailer. The results showed that their trailer had formaldehyde levels 75 times higher than the maximum workplace exposure levels recommended by the National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health. The mother evacuated the trailer. FEMA then stopped testing other trailers."

More Waxman: "The levels that they were seeing were too high for human health. Now there may be other problems, but you don’t think even at this date that the formaldehyde levels were too high and might have endangered public health? Is that your testimony?"

Heckuvajob, Brownie! :sarcasm: :grr: :banghead:
