Chain of Command - Did George Tenet fail the president, or just do his job?
Chain of Command
By Shane Harris sharris@nationaljournal.com July 23, 2007

Weeks before the Sept. 11 attacks, George Tenet, then the director of Central Intelligence, was convinced that al Qaeda had planned an imminent strike on the United States, and that President Bush should authorize the CIA to take covert action against the terrorists.

Tenet said so to Condoleezza Rice, then Bush's national security adviser, in a hastily arranged meeting on July 10, 2001. At its conclusion, Tenet felt relieved. "We had gotten the full attention of the administration," he writes in his memoir, At the Center of the Storm: My Years at the CIA (HarperCollins, 2007).

History now tells us Tenet was wrong. He has absorbed blame for not doing more to prevent the attacks. But since his book's publication, Tenet has been ripped for not sidestepping the president's advisers -- namely Rice -- and personally warning Bush about al Qaeda.

What was his job, or for that matter, the job of any presidential intelligence adviser? Scott Pelley of CBS' "60 Minutes" asked Tenet in an interview why he didn't ask Bush directly to take action. His response has cast him as a classic, and for many, unfortunate, bureaucratic actor.

"Because the United States government doesn't work that way," Tenet said. "The president is not the action officer. You bring the action to the national security adviser and people who set the table for the president."

3. There is a saying
in the Navy about medals which probably have a little tarnish on them. They are referred to as Fleet Unit Commendations with Cluster. Cluster Fucs for short.

2. "Full attention of the administration"
george, you are so silly. Obviously the warnings were not that important to you. They sure as hell weren't important to anyone in the white house. bush let it happen so the morons who comprised his base would get all fake patriotic and want (someone) else to kick some raghead ass. george, you fail in chain of command 101.

4. Tenet is a Liar.
He said he resigned. It is obvious that he got fired because he was trying to expose Ahmed Chalabi as the traitor and scumbag that he is. In everything else, Tenet kissed Busholini, Cheney & Rumsfailed ass. Tenet is a disgrace, as is Colon Powell. Tenet went along with LIHOP & the WMD in Iraq lies. If Tenet has any honor he would have commited suicide instead of writing a book for blood money.

the Oval Office. Later, he traveled to New York City, and in the
afternoon, he returned to Washington, DC.
The President announced his intention to nominate Mark W. Olson to
be a member of the Board of Governors of the Federal Reserve System.
The President announced his intention to nominate Elsa A. Murano to
be Under Secretary of Agriculture for Food Safety.

6. Condi
Condi's inability to grasp Tenet's urgent warnings is treasonous stupidity. She should be in jail serving time for "accessory to mass murder by incompetence", for the next 75 years!

Didn't Tenet see Cheney and/or Bush EVERY FUCKING MORNING for the PDB? Seems like it would be easy to "bypass the chain of command" if you see these sociopaths every morning, doncha think?

8. Incompetence....by design.
"We never dreamed they'd use planes as weapons." Condi @ 9/11 hearings. Of course, that statement was made before we leaned about the 7/10/01 and 08/06/01 briefings...and the 50 odd other warnings from foreign intel services.

7. Nice attempt at revisionist history
Tenet, Cheney, and other neo-cons FABRICATED OUT OF WHOLE CLOTH evidence.

The easiest instance to point to is the Niger Yellowcake Uranium forgeries. The ISI in cooperation with the CIA stole letterhead from an Embassy in Rome, then hurriedly fabricated a letter purporting to show Iraq trying to build nuclear weapons.

Of course, Joseph Wilson and many others immediately sniffed out this rat, yet the US media curiously remained silent on this HUGE story. (Damn liberal media).

I am SO FUCKING SICK of the revisionist history that passes as news these days.

Disgusting.
