"Christianized Medicine." Michael Moore is brilliant.
Edited on Mon Jul-23-07 04:11 PM by Atman
On Tweety now. Chris was badgering him about Hillary's "Socialized Medicine," and Moore finally said he'd call it "Christianized Medicine," because Jesus compelled us to take care of the sick. This is only asking us to do what Jesus said we should do, take care of each other.

If you believe or not, you gotta give him credit...it's a brilliant marketing angle!

1. If you listen real hard
you can hear zealots playing leviticus backwards to find basis for the refutation.

3. Most uber-Christians are unaware that Jesus preached something
very akin to socialism. Something about giving away all your possessions (presumably to the poor and not the rich) and living communally with other Christians.

The Hutterites are socialist Christians living in communes.

5. I've said that for a long time
that Jesus was a kind of early socialist.

Which sorta begs the question, what are those nutty greedheads doing sitting in church anyway?

8. They are full on commune -ists. Everyone has a job, everyone gets fed.
They are a facinating group. Very successful. The children are communally raised.

13. The children are not communally raised, per se. They dwell with their
individual families. BUT the Hutterites have full community "day care", community schools, and community after-school activities. The moms and dads all have "jobs" where they spend their days out of the house.

I like how they have a website and minor internet presence. They are like the Amish in some ways, but very unlike them in others.

15. Here is a link to a hilarious passage in an article written by a Cornelius Cornwell,
Edited on Mon Jul-23-07 06:15 PM by KCabotDullesMarxIII
who, I believe, is a Jesuit priest:

http://www.agendaforprophets.org.uk/

The article (click on Articles in the table of contents on the left of the page) is entitled, Review: The Passion of Political Love.

The first few paragraphs under the heading, The Christ of Bourgeois Security give a hilariously withering description of a certain type of lay 'grandee' and the ethos within the Church that they inhabit.

I remember a time, some decades ago now, fortunately, when significant elements of the leadership, clerical and secular, of our Catholic church in Britain had become so imbued with a kind of misguidedly self-regarding intellectual elitisim, that it was difficult to avoid the impression that Christ, himself, was, well... a bit down-market. In all seriousness, I don't think he would have had a prayer of getting into a contemplative order of monks, other than as a Brother.

--it was nothing but a huge subsidy to private insurers.

21. funny thing is, when you say stuff like this to the Talibornagains, they respond with
one of their favorite lines of scripture (which, oddly enough, appears nowhere in the Bible)

"The Lord helps those who help themselves"

22. Luke 6:30... anyone that has to contend with right wing fundementalists should memorize it
Its like sunlight to a vampire for them.

Luke 6:30 Give to every man that asketh of thee; and of him that taketh away thy goods ask them not again.

23. The repukes have certainly helped themselves.........
to our tax money. In fact, the Bush Crime Family has been helping themselves to our tax money since ole' Sam Bush sold munitions to both sides during World War I. These crooks have been sucking on the Golden Government Tit for over 90 years. Yes, seems like The Lord has certainly helped the Bushes help themselves.

25. I'm not sure what Moore said will help.
To most right-wingers it's profit uber alles. Their first God is the almighty dollar, and then Jesus comes second.
