- Althecat today - DU ERD (in response to a suggestion that it might be hard to find the 10s of thousands of volunteers to count Hand Counted Paper Ballots.)

What would happen if the Democractic Party leadership said the above instead of instead of.

“My sense is there’s no way to get this thing in place by the election of 2008,” Ms. Feinstein said. “Without adequate time, we could cause real problems in the election.”

Would you volunteer to count?

Hell, I would even come across from NZ to help if I was allowed :)

I don't know about the rest of you - but (channelling Bleever) I still believe. Its been a long hard four and half years getting people to think about election reform and the decaying state of U.S. Democracy.

And now it is fixable. We just need action not cynicism.

So please signon, kick and rec this if you believe too...... & if you feel like discussing the merits of not giving up on the 2008 elections do that too.

Michael Moore was on Hardball this evening. He was asked if he thought America was ripe for a
revolution. He said, NO.

Then he said we need a revolution at the polls and we need to know that our elections are really

He went on to question the viability of our election system and said Canada had a better alternative –
HAND COUNTED PAPER BALLOTS That's what Kucinich proposes in H.R.6200=>

Canada’s Federal elections have Hand Counted Paper Ballots. They are precise and effective.
The main complaints about elections are the introduction of computerized voting US style.

In anticipation of the defenders of optical scans as “paper ballots” (which they’re not), let me say:

1) Kucinich’s House Resolution 6200 calls for Hand Counted Paper Ballots for presidential
elections, which would be a system very much like Canada.
2) We’ve had problems with presidential elections.
3) In addition, despite periods of mechanization, e.g. lever machines, punch cards (IBM), we have
periods where hand counting was done on a large scale in large states. We survived!

21. Now here is an "I still believe" place I can get behind. Hanging on though by what

little is left of my nails. I don't like the edge I feel like we are all on right now.

It really is feeling too much like August of 2001, especially with Dubya and his "hand-picked VP" in charge at this moment in time.

Damn right I'll count. I'd do whatever was asked of me if I could just have faith in the process again.

Bush didn't win Florida. In EITHER election. It is one of those things I know to be true, though I cannot prove it to the satisfaction of many. So be it. Let's just open the process, make it transparent, no matter what that takes.

24. I would certainly agree about florida....

in 2004 bush did spectacularly well in broward and miami dade..... nobody has ever explained that to my satisfaction.
