I drove from Wisconsin to Illinois today and with no CDs in the car I was eventually in the land of talk radio. It wasn't any of the righties I was familiar with- I wasn't even sure who it was. He was addressing the issue of the fairness doctrine, saying that it didn't need to be legislated, there just needed to be good fair-minded hosts like himself. First caller in said this country really needs single payer health care and he interrupted the guy saying no way, that's ridiuculous. The caller started to explain to him why it made good economic sense and the radio guy just cut him off.
Next thing was someone calling about impeaching Bush, someone upset about torture and the war. Radio guy says he was tired of all these immature people blaming Cheney and Bush for everything and that the people on the left just needed to grow up. Right wing guy calls in and reinforces radio guy. Radio guy thinks this is "fairness" and pats himself on the back.
I'd rather listen to the Jesus station than that crap, but I finally found some jazz.

1. Yeah, there's a spot on that drive with virtually NO FM stations... |

I do that drive several times a year! Way out in Wisconsin you can pick up some of the old Clear Channel stations, NOT the company, but the old AM stations positioned strategically around the nation and run at 50,000 watts or more. You might be hearing stations from LONG distance, the AM signal will 'skip' off the ionosphere and you can hear stations from 1000 miles away.
