If They Had Just Been Out Front About This Oil Grab, Would Americans Have Gone Along With It?
If they had just come right out and said,

"Folks, we're running out of oil and if the US wants to continue with our current lifestyle,
we've just got to go take it from those little countries who are sitting on top of all that is left?"

No Phony 9/11
No Phoney WMD's
No Phoney Spreading Democracy

Just we're the biggest and baddest on the planet and we run on oil
and
the biggest pools of oil left now are under countries who don't stand a chance against our military

So, we're just gonna go get it
Victor/Spoils
And there's OIL in the word spOILs

How many of us would have bought that logic?

1. Probably the same 25% that support him now

While it's far from majority, it's still way too many people.

6. I've met some who said they would.
But no where near the number who eventually did.

Don't forget: Polls had little support for invading Iraq prior to "We don't want that smoking gun to come in the form of a mushroom cloud."

The fake Niger document was their ace in the hole.

7. I agree
For the most part.

But then again, many really did know down deep, that was why we were going there.

9. People are slowly waking up to that fact now
and they don't seen too surprised. If the right-wing-radio crowd, and the Fundamental-Born-again-Mormons, got a good talkin'to from the pulpit, and Faux News had O'Liely do a 90 second pep talk, changing his mind on Big Oil, and we should all go out and buy a coupla extra tanks to boost profits, we'd have a new Religion. I don't even think we would have needed, 9/11 to get most of the corporations and all the Rednecks behind it. I think the average Nascar fuck, believes we have a right to that oil because our standard of living demands it. And you know the average Billionaire thinks so. The entitlement crowd. If you couch the rhetoric in propaganda format and present through radio, tv, and the paper, ya hear it at church, and you don't question it because everyone else around you thinks so...most folks will go along. We are the sheeple. bahhhh

10. Wasn't that the "wink, wink, nod, nod" message at the time?
I remember being appalled by the references to how the Iraq "spigots" would get turned on once we succeeded in Operation Iraqi Liberation (O.I.L.). I am not going to search out references to the oil, but it was very clear at the time that Cheney and the others were hinting in not very subtle ways that we would have all the cheap gas we wanted if we just went along with the plan.

I think many people went along with that while publicly expressing other reasons (evil dictator, WMDs, etc.). Now those people have blood on their hands and have rewritten their own minds' histories...
