Diplomats Received Political Briefings
Bush Aides Listed Election Targets

By Paul Kane
washingtonpost.com Staff Writer
Tuesday, July 24, 2007; Page A01

White House aides have conducted at least half a dozen political briefings for the Bush administration's top diplomats, including a PowerPoint presentation for ambassadors with senior adviser Karl Rove that named Democratic incumbents targeted for defeat in 2008 and a "general political briefing" at the Peace Corps headquarters after the 2002 midterm elections.

(snip)

The documents show for the first time how the White House sought to ensure that even its appointees involved in foreign policy were kept attuned to the administration's election goals. Such briefings occurred semi-regularly over the past six years for staffers dealing with domestic policy, White House officials have previously acknowledged.

(snip -- Biden wrote to Condi about this...)

"I do not understand why ambassadors, in Washington on official duty, would be briefed by White House officials on which Democratic House members are considered top targets by the Republican party for defeat in 2008. Nor do I understand why department employees would need to be briefed on 'key media markets' in states that are 'competitive' for the president," Biden wrote.

His aides said Biden plans to raise the matter at a confirmation hearing today for Henrietta Holsman Fore to be administrator of the U.S. Agency for International Development, whose political appointees received at least two White House briefings in the past 10 months, as well as at an oversight hearing tomorrow on the Peace Corps.

(And guess who did the PowerPoint presentation, by the way? Sara Taylor. :eyes: )

2. No, nothing is off limits to this bunch...
but what do you expect with a scum bag like Karl Rove running amok in the White House. I wonder where dear old Karen Hughes fits into all of this, I haven't heard her name come up lately.

5. EVERY OFFICE AND OFFICER IS POLITICAL NOW. Pardon the shout
but that's what's happened. First it was the DoJ, then SCOTUS, and now the diplomatic corp.

Republicans must be defeated at every turn. Every school board, every dogcatcher, every congressperson--gone.

7. Diplomacy? We Don't Need No Stinkin' Diplomacy
Look at who we have as the "face" of our foreign affairs. Condaliar...the most inept Secretary of State. Ever. Frau Hughes who has surely won us tons of hearts and minds all over the middle east (yep, send a bossy woman to show them A-rabs) and a diplomatic corpse full of patronage hacks and donors. How about that fukstick Fox...he couldn't get confirmed so boooshie recess appoints him.

In fairness, of all places where political favors are paid and repaid are with amabassadorships and cushy jobs in Foggy bottom. The difference is that we had competent leaders at the top.

8. Has anyone seen the pattern behind their madness?
Think about how you network in business, how you put aside your personal likes and dislikes aside just to find people who can facilitate a deal. Then imagine what happens if you control government and can do the unimaginable by facilitating business deals for people if they join the band wagon.

This is a pattern that is normal for business organizations. It infiltrated our Congress many, many years ago. The Bush-Cheney team have just broken down all the normal barriers in government to take it to a higher level.
