It's time to take back the lesson of Viet Nam and pound it into people's heads: |
Everyone who died in Viet Nam died for NOTHING! Right now Viet NAm is where the smart investors are taking their money to build factories; China's getting too expensive.Who's leading the parade? Children of Vietnamese refugees who grew up in the States and have contacts in both countries. No matter how many Vietnamese died after the fall of Saigon, it was nothing compared to the number we killed during the war with "friendly fire". No torture the Communists ever used can stand next to the birth defects we caused with Agent Orange. Cambodia was the most hideous blow back ever seen. It only happened because we were there. Call it a retreat, call it a bug out, call it a debacle, the faster we end this war in Iraq, the better.

to hear the chickenshit chickenhawks of today say that we should have stayed in Vietnam until we "WON." Won what? All war all the time as long as someone else is suffering.

2. It's worse than sad - it's a lie. We need to pound this into people. |
Viet Nam wasn't ours to lose. Iraq is not ours to lose. It's not football and we're not a team that's never lost a game.

3. we took over France's low-level colonial war...win what, indeed? |
yet another political war, waged for all the wrong reasons... good coverage of the "reasons" behind US involvement in Vietnam in Chalmers Johnson's Blowback. And it wasn't like the French were doing very well when they were there.

4. We dropped 500 pounds of high explosive for every man, woman |
and child in that tiny country. We poisoned the water with Agent Orange. The trees were so full of schrapnel that they couldn't be forested. They are still finding unexploded ordinance. More than three million Vietnamese died in the ten years we fought that war.
If that isn't trying to win can someone please tell me what trying would look like?

5. No matter how illicit one might view our involvement in Viet Nam, the invasion and occupation |
... of Iraq dwarfs it in criminality. The debacle of Iraq is a monstrous war crime - completely and totally illicit from the very first day.

6. I actually think that lesson has been learned by most Americans |
The trouble is that it seems that among the small minority who have failed to learn those lessons are our so called leaders in both the WH and Congress. They seem hell bent on repeating these mistakes time and again.
