McDonald's on the Washington Mall
Edited on Tue Jul-24-07 11:56 AM by marylanddem
Just wondered how many D.C. area folks have noticed the little McDonald's store tucked in alongside the Air & Space Museum? (I'm pretty sure it was Air & Space, but for sure one of those museums on that side of the mall)
When I was down there yesterday to march with Cindy, I also noticed a little McDonald's sign right on the sidewalk in front of the museum.
It just boggled my mind, but I guess it shouldn't.

1. It's been there since like 2000
But it only operates Memorial Day - Labor Day. And it's more of a McDonalds stand or kiosk than a store; to me it's not much different from the half-smoke carts.

Man, I'm going to miss half-smokes when I leave DC :(

2. McDonald's bought the rights to operate a restaurant
inside Air and Space. Frankly, it's better food than the average museum restaurant.

3. the food at Air and Space used to be really really good
The restaurant was then bought out by a big food-service operation and it sank like a stone in quality. Marriott, I think.

I used to order an excellent cobb salad at that restaurant, regularly, before it deteriorated.

8. Outstanding gelato
I don't know why the Smithsonian decided to sell gelato everywhere, but the stuff in the east wing cafe is pretty good. I like the mascarpone gelato.
