GOP fundraiser to feature machine gun shoot

MANCHESTER – City Republicans will be packing some serious firepower at their next party fundraiser.

Tired of the usual chicken dinners, the Manchester Republican Committee is planning to arm supporters next month with Uzis, M-16 rifles and other automatic weapons for a day of target practice at a Pelham firing range.

"The thought just struck me one day: a machine gun shoot. What the heck?" said Jerry Thibodeau, the committee chairman.

Thibodeau, who is himself a hunter and skeet shooter, pitched the Aug. 5 event as a fun social gathering, as well as a demonstration of the party's support for Second Amendment rights.

The concept prompted shudders across the political aisle. Chris Pappas, the city Democratic party chairman, called the event "not just in poor taste; it is downright offensive."

The rifle that YouTube Guy was holding wasn't a machinegun, it was a civilian target rifle, non-automatic (and a small-caliber one, at that). His rifle happens to be the most popular civilian centerfire target rifle in America.

My wife's rifle is bigger than that guy's, and she's not compensating for a damn thing.

You know that half of gun owners are Dems and indies, and a third are women, right?

That said, machine gun owners are high rollers, so they're probably thinking of this as a way to get really wealthy people to donate. A civilian-transferable M16 costs $15,000 to $75,000, assuming you get Federal authorization to possess one and live in a state that allows it.

Democrats should do the same thing. It'd be awesome to have a fundraiser for 2 A supporting democrats at the local gun range. Republicans should not have a lock on the 2 A. I believe that some democrats do nothing but alienate blue collar voters with their hysterical anti-gun nonsense.

Why should good, honest working class men and women who enjoy hunting get pushed away by the party that traditionally supports their interests? It just doesn't make any sense. NYC, as wonderful a place as it is, cannot elect the president.
