"It's bad enough they shut the office down with phone calls."
Spoken by one of Conyers' aides yesterday and overheard by David Swanson.

It's time to remind Conyers and his staff that taking our phone calls is part of their J O B.

Send a one-click fax to Congressman Conyers' office: http://www.peaceandjustice.it/impeach

Call ~ and get everyone you know to call ~ Conyers' office: phone Chairman Conyers at 202-225-5126.

Email: john.conyers@mail.house.gov

just clarifying here, that was my answer to the Conyers aides. That is what we are supposed to do, to call, and they are supposed to take our calls, that is their job.

5. we have, for the moment, suspended faxing from our site.
Please note: due to the OVERWHELMING response to our Judiciary Fax Blast, we have, for the moment, suspended faxing from our site.

Over 1700 faxes have been sent (!) and the fax machine in Rep. John Conyers' office seems to have gone on the blink. As soon as we can, we will continue with the Fax Blast.

Please continue to call his office:

13. Did it yesterday. Here's my fax
Dear Congressman Conyers,

I live in West Texas. Both my Senators are died-in-the-wool Republicans. I have called my Congressional Representative more than once and have been told that my opinion does not matter because I did not vote for him.

Perhaps you will listen. Perhaps you will hear. Perhaps you will act.

George Bush and his Vice President, Richard Cheney, have mired us in an unwinnable war that they had no right to wage in the first place. They lied and they keep lying about, well, everything. They lie about WMDs. They lie about US attorneys. They lie about torture. They lie about wiretapping. They lie about social security. They lie about No Child Left Behind. They lied in their oaths to protect and defend the constitution.

To add to this, they have virtually bankrupted our treasury, destroyed our standing in the world and have devastated the country of Iraq.

And death? As of today, 3633 American sons and daughters are dead because of their lies. The Lancet estimates that more than half a million Iraqis are dead by the hands of these two men.

There's more. So much more. Not only are these men responsible for this pre-emptive war, they can't even take care of this nation. New Orleans is still in ruins. Our ports are not safe. Our civil liberties are disappearing before our eyes. All the while, 60% of our major corporations pay little or no taxes and our jobs and public services are being outsourced and privatized.

I simply do not understand why these men are not being held accountable? Why are they not being made to defend their actions through the impeachment process? Isn't that what impeachment is for?

Please help me understand. Please hear us. If we let them get away without having made them accountable, then what is the point of checks and balances? Why have a Congress at all?

(feel free to use the text for your own faxes)

17. I'm sorry to disagree, but their job is to take phone calls from their constituents .....
If the aid was complaining about taking calls from Michigan's 14th District, then he ought to be reprimanded or fired.

On the other hand, if he was talking about calls from outside the district, that's his right. The comment may have been impolitic, but it surely wasn't wrong. And even more surely, if you make an issue of it, that's called 'grabbing for straws'.

35. No, that's not it
There are different places to contact him at.
If you're contacting his regular office, that's for constituents. But you can contact the Judiciary Committee. There's a difference.

If this aide worked for his regular office, then I could see them being upset, that people that Conyers doesn't represent are tying up their phone/fax lines. But if they worked in the judiciary office, then they can't be upset.

not his constituency's office. You have your own congressperson to represent you, right?

(and stop bitching too much, my representative doesn't even get to vote)

18. The immigration shut-down was a victory
for the rabid right. Isn't that funny how that works.

I think there is better use of time than beating up John Conyers - but if their phone lines are being jammed, why isn't it on the news the way the immigration phone jamming was.

*sigh*

28. You know, I really don't believe that this time. Not for a moment.
I think Mr. Conyers (and so, his staff) are between a DLc election year and a dear place that they have supported -- at some cost -- for years.

I trust John Conyers which is more than I can say for my own rep who happens to be Speaker at the moment. And I hope he finds it within himself to improve this situation.

36. Gonna agree fully
with you there, there are other business their office has as well, aside from Cindy and her in this case misguided action.

Want to protest his Judiciary actions, then call THAT office, not the office for his constituents, he likely had his hands full already, the added foolishness of a myrad of people swamping his phones and fax machines makes him unable to do the job he was elected by his constituents to do, and might have caused important calls not go thrue when they needed(tho those for Cindy don't seem to care about that aspect if its not involved in instant Impeachment)
