1. OK, I live at the top of hill :D
anyway I live in the NW, lots of rain but the flooding is a fair bit south, Shrewsbury and Birminghm are the nearest places to me to be effected.

Thanks for your concern tho'

5. The pictures gave me some flashbacks to Katrina.
I live far away from there, but they are still suffering. I was just reading that they still haven't gotten most of the hospitals running again in New Orleans.

I hope that things continue to go better for you there.

2. Cornwall here
There was another flash flood in Boscastle last month, but Kernow is a bit too up and down for real flooding. From what I've heard from message board friends it is bearable in the main.

6. I heard that hundreds of thousands had no electricity or fresh water.
That can't be fun.

8. The fresh water is the main problem
But it's nowhere near as bad as Katrina. The water isn't incredibly deep, on the whole, and high vehicles like tractors have generally been able to get through, and they're sending water tankers to keep drinking water going. Some electricity was temporarily lost, but the BBC site seems to say it's all back on now (one of the substations was the one supplying GCHQ, the British equivalent of the NSA, and surprise, surprise, they sent the army to stop that one being flooded). Not too many places are cut off from all directions, I think. And there was no damage from the rain itself, unlike the winds of Katrina, so the houses are all viable - just need cleaning. There was about a day's warning, too, so I'd hope people managed to get the moveable stuff to the upstairs floors (most houses in Britain have a second floor).

3. Well, I live near a flood plain,
but no big rivers nearby - no real danger unless the sea level rises considerably. In which case we're all doomed anyway.

Thanks for the thoughts.

4. You're welcome.
I hope your government handles things a lot better than ours did.

10. I'll bet England handles the problems a lot better than the Dimson
did. Take care of yourselves and know we're thinking about all of you. Bless you.
