13. Get your ass out there on the front lines and we'll
start Marrah threads. The fact is it's CINDY out there hanging her ass out on a line trying to get something done. She's human and she's going to make mistakes and her passion is inevitably going to be manifested in her words and her actions. Unlike us keyboard "warriors-for-peace", she's acually DOING SOMETHING!

22. Good grief.
San Francisco is never going to send a R to Congress. Never. Look at the damned numbers from 2004.

District 8
* Nancy Pelosi Democratic 167,542 84.7
Jennifer Depalma Republican 23,366 11.8
Leilani D. Dowell Peace & Freedom 7,063 3.5

Is Cindy Sheehan really going to split a lead of nearly 70%?

If that's true, we should hire her as our chief campaign strategist. She's going to poll maybe a little better than Dowell.

26. It's amazing how hard it is for people to grasp this simple fact
There will never be a rethug elected in Pelosi's district. Never. Even if Cindy manages to split it right down the middle (damn unlikely) the Dems still win in a walk.

It seems like most of the anger at Cindy comes from the fact that she DARES challenge one of the establishment candidates. Since Pelosi is in absolutely no danger of losing her seat, this extra voice in the election does nothing but good.

28. Good heavens, Miss Molly, do we ever get to end the "Cindy" worship
around here at DU? Ever? Cindy and her daughter came up late 2004 and ran into 2005. Can we just stop with this please here at DU.

There are so many on the front line, doing something everyday.

I know Cindy does not want this. I know it, if she knew, I like to believe she would be very disappointed we could not all do better.

I'm banking on it.

Quit with all the Cindy worship, she does not want it. (I've heard tales she does, but I for one, I choose to believe not. I believe celebrity must spoil anyone touched by it unless they are truly grounded when it (celebrity) hits.)

She should be hounding republicans to join the democrats in

anti-war face. Cindy screwed up big time in these latest episodes.

39. The anti-war movement isn't just Democrats
"She's only diminishing the anti-war movement
with bad press."

I think she is a main reason the Democrats won in 2006. Her efforts & passion woke people up to the war and its costs and Bush's refusal to listen to the voice of real people.

The antiwar movement is made up of people from all parties, all walks of life, crosses the ideologies of political parties.
The Dems are not an antiwar party!
I'm not anti-democrat but I'm anti-ignorance.

I said these latest episodes. I agree she did a lot for the anti war movement in the past.
I also think she's choosing the wrong people to harrass. It is a reality that republicans have
put up the roadblocks to end the war. These are the people to reach. That's my point and that
isn't "ignorant". And I didn't say the anti-war movement is only democrats. Putting words in
my mouth there?

48. Don't mean to put words in your mouth, sorry

My feeling is that harrassing the Republicans would be a waste of time.

Democrats have the power to do so much -- but they're not doing it --
(eg, cutting funding for the war, initiating impeachment proceedings).

It makes sense, to me, that on behalf of the people, the Democrats should
be pushed, and pushed, and pushed: to give them spine, to make them hear, to
embolden them to act.

Even if they've already done some good things, they could be doing much more.

Many people -- much more knowledgeable than I am about politics and
the Constitution -- and not all of them Democrats -- say that they CAN do
much more, and that they MUST.

the Dem leadership.

How dare she not do exactly what I think she should.

She would be a lot more effective if she sat in Nebraska and mindlessly voted for Nelson or if she sat in CO. and mindlessly voted for Salazar.

The occupation would be over by now if she just wasn't so counter productive.

Cindy's counter productivity is what forced the Dems to fully fund the surge. It also caused the Dems to require the Iraqis to put their oil under the control of the multinationals so we can stay in Iraq and protect big oil's investments with our soldiers' lives for decades to come.

How dare she not let Conyers talk out of two sides of his mouth about impeachment without any consequences! Why the nerve of that woman! He's earned the right to talk out of two sides of his mouth! Doesn't she get that?

41. Yes, because the rest of us are just lazy sots who do nothing
Just because we all aren't camera hounds doesn't mean we aren't doing meaningful work out here everyday. I am raising a decent young man who will work to make this world a better place as I am doing and have done for years as are millions of people in this country, and working everyday to provide for him as well as doing what I can for important causes I care about. Sitting all day in a Congressman's office because you have the time and money just to get publicity isn't as much work to me as that done by those who work hard everyday just to be broke on payday. Sure, give me the financial freedom to not have to work to survive and the time and I'll go sit in a Congressman's office all day. Until then, it will have to be phone calls, letters, faxes, and any other means I can find to make my voice heard. I do hope that meets with your approval.

And have let my voice be heard on them many times. I just think many people are doing things out here and it just isn't known. And as many of us know, raising a child these days is not an easy task but it is the most important one in regards to our future. I think if we really want to change this world it has to start with our children. It won't matter how much we change this system if those coming up don't have the tools they will need to keep what we make for them.

To stop the war, the lies and the killing.

That's not noble and meaningful enough kind of work for you?

You may be thanking them someday for visiting Congress and the Justice Dept.

Just what the hell is the point of your response? Did I say I didn't feel for those who have lost their children? Did I say I was not letting my voice be heard regarding this BS "war"? Some of you here really and truly need to lose the holier than thou attitude you carry around. Writing posts insinuating that because we don't sit up "on the hill" all day or didn't lose a child we cannot understand this or are less worthy as Americans than Cindy Sheehan is arrogance at its height. I was out here with 3/4 of this world BEFORE it started trying to stop those young people from being killed in the first place. Where was Cindy Sheehan then? If this is the attitude that pervades the socalled "anti-war" movement in this country now, no wonder you are losing people.

The anti-war movement is not just 'our' movement. It is obviously 'your' movement also. And that movement cries out for not one more son, daughter, father, mother, lover, husband, wife, cousin, neighbor, friend or nameless soldier to be killed in the name of madness.

alluding that people who exercise their rights and do it in a way that may seem to you as full time, are somehow
less than worthy and according to you are unemployed. As if what you're doing is so much more responsible.
How the H do you know if they work before or after their protests? Mostly my point though, was that you very
well may be thanking them someday. I appreciate what they're doing because I can't be there all the time.
If I could? I would! But that's just me. I want this war to end...now!

87. Well, how do you know others don't protest before or after they work?
And as I stated, there are many ways of making your voice heard and they are ALL worthwhile. For someone who accuses others of twisting words you sure do a bang up job of it yourself. The OP certainly assumed we weren't doing our part because we just can't measure up to Cindy Sheehan, and THAT was what I was addressing in my response. And if you want some reality, even if the troops pulled out today this "war' would not be over. Even if the fighting ends there this war is not over. It isn't as easy as one protest or one election to stop the centuries of animosity, religious strike, and greed that has permeated to the core of our existence. This is going to take decades of changing the way we actually live, what we teach our children, and how we see the world. I hope that clears up with you what was a gross misrepresenatation of me on your part.

to find it. I have some things to post there.

Can anyone direct me to it?

79. Now you decide to "get involved"...
:eyes:

Is that all you ever do? Complain about others,

while doing nothing meaningful with your own life

besides being a Keyboard Commando?

Is your veneer that thin?

BTW? She doesn't have a "messageboard".

80. She doesn't have a message board?????
That's a shame.

(My life, which is none of your business, has been spent working to improve conditions for people who are economically and socially marginalized. I'm content with what I do.)

82. If you do, do, what you say you do, then
Edited on Thu Jul-26-07 12:08 AM by Breeze54
you should be more supportive of a DEAD soldiers Mom trying to stop the killing and more sympathetic.

Apparently the word "empathy' isn't in your dictionary.

Pull your head out of your ass....view reality and admire the sunshine, for a change.

If you are working as you claim to be, then, why aren't you and why weren't you, right out
there with Code Pink or any other anti-war groups when the killings and bombings began?

I think you are a liar. You could care less about humanity. You just like to argue and criticize.

I'm sure you didn't know but Code Pink, even before Ms. Sheehan arrived on the scene, has always
asked for suggestions and ADVICE!!!

To bad you missed that boat. But only now, when you see a 'failure to communicate', in your eyes,
do you decide to make a comment or make a convoluted and fake effort.

You've been all along, so your supposed 'intentions' are suspect.

edited to add the word : DEAD :grr:

88. If you want to enter a political fight you can't be a holy cow.
Cindy Sheehan isn't running for Mother of the year - she's running for political office.

And I don't give a fuck what you think of my intentions, so thanks.

though i find her latest actions ill advised, this country needs more shit stirrers and fewer folks folks sitting around depending on morally corrupt political cowards to do the right thing.

68. What this country needs is for every DU'er
is to find one tenth of her courage and one twentieth of the time she spent Monday to confront their Representative, (w/camcorder prefrbly) and ask why they have not signed on to Kucinich's House Res. 333, to impeach cheney.

Dennis has about 13 signed on! He only needs a few more. The time has come today, now, to fight for what we cherish. At least call, email....or get a few friends and picket his office. A few more Reps find a spine soon and we will start the process: investigate, impeach....END OF THE WAR. If we fail to act soon we will come to rue the day of our cowardice. The table is all set, just one "natural disaster" or false flag terror attack and we are plunged into a police state the likes of which will be long in escaping. Read the Presidential Directive for National Security 51, signed on May 9. Read the Executive Order of July 17. The papers have been signed, the ball is in motion.

Your Rep. must be convinced to sign on TODAY. As the world's 800 pound gorilla, if we go down, were takin the planet with us. Do it for humanity, your great grand children will thank you.
Lets start the ball rolling the other direction. Impeach cheney now!

SUPPORT HOUSE RESOLUTION 333(its half the devil)

66. Yes, thank you
for turning a sensible anti-war effort into an attention-whoring, self-serving morass. The day she pulled a Lieberman and started trashing & campaigning against sitting Democrats is the day her sorry ass was tuned out.

69. Our task is clear, urgent and morally imperative
Do what ever is in your power to get your Rep. signed on to House Res. 333

Kucinich has the balls to fight. Impeach cheney and no more permanent bases, no more illeagal occupation, no more slaughtering of innocent women and children in our name, with our money. No more torture, evesdropping, outing of covert officers, insane levels of secrecy, corps writing energy bills, or people getting shot in the face while drunk on Wild Turkey

And no more mealy mouthed excuses from our employees we sent to washington to do a job they seem to timid or bought to attempt.

People who are lazy enough not to even spell Che's motto correctly shouldn't jump to the throats of those who are actually doing something so quickly.
