In February of 2009, Who Will Absorb the Blame for the Debacle in Iraq? |
|
Will it be the newly-elected Democratic President?
Will it be the Democratic Congress and their wishy-washy treatment of the prior administration and their endless, toothless and fruitless hearings?
Rest assured, folks, Bushco will walk away from this laughing. And the RW pundits will have a Field Day pinning the "failures of Iraq" on the Democratic Party. And the American people, sick and tired of even hearing about the mess over there, will blindly agree.
THAT is why impeachment is a must. Either way, we lose. At least with impeachment, we run those bastards through the ringer.

1. I sadly agree with you. |

The M$M and all of its vitriolic right-wing pundits will start painting the occupation of Iraq as the Democrats' fault as soon as Bush is no longer in office. If the occupation in Iraq is still going on in 2009, here's the best thing we can do to not take blame or responsibility for it:
If a Democrat is elected President and both houses of the Legislature remain in our control in November 2008, then the next Congress needs to draft up a bill for withdrawal of troops and have it ready for the President's signature on January 20th. And I mean after taking the oath of office the new President needs to sign that bill in front of all those cameras, take advantage of the fact that the media are already there for his/her inauguration. That way the President can make a very clear and public statement that the war is over, at the inauguration, so the pundits can't spin it that the Democrats let the war continue while having control of the government.
Regarding impeachment, you're absolutely right. Even if we're doomed to failure due to lack of votes in the Senate, we have to at least try. Indict, impeach, imprison...NOW!

2. 25% approval rating speaks volumes.... |
|
It's Bush's war. The only reason the war will become someone else's "fault" will be if the next President promised to get us out, then takes years to do so.

3. The Dems who supported the war |
|
that is, Hillary and John Edwards, they will be the ones to face the blame game.
It would seem like a good idea right now to distance themselves as far as possible as having anything to do with supporting this debacle. So they can begin to deflect some of the blame while it is in its formative stages.
Obama may not have enough momentum to get elected by then, but no one can blame him for the failure of the Iraq War.
What will happen, IMHO, is that the whole thing will be blamed on "liberals" in Washinghton, like the Vietnam War. Only a small segment of the population will actually buy into it, however it will be echoed repeatedly by the corporate press ad infinitum so that an appearance of a consensus will be created in the mass media.
