Blinded Justice
07.24.07 -- 3:37PMBy David Kurtz

Since Alberto Gonzales has about as much credibility left as professional cycling, maybe it's no surprise that members of the Senate Judiciary Committee are hinting that Gonzales may be subject to an inquiry into whether he perjured himself before the committee in denying that there was any serious dispute within the Justice Department about the legality of the President's warrantless wiretapping program. (Spencer Ackerman and Paul Kiel have the details.)

While it may not be surprising per se, think about what it means for the institutions of justice in this country that the sitting Attorney General of the United States is suspected of perjury, by senators from his own party, who are willing to say so publicly, in matters involving national security and the fundamental constitutional rights of American citizens; yet, the President does nothing but voice his support for man.

I suppose we should not be surprised, but we should also not lose our capacity to be outraged

What he said.

1. George has to protect Alberto who could rat him out.
Let us never forget that Alberto is merely the eager tool of the master criminals.

2. Alberto is B*sh's "finger in the dam", holding back a devastating flood of criminal charges.
He's really got no option but to keep him there.
If the real truth starts coming out, no part of
this misAdministration or the Repub Party will
be left with even the flimsiest appearance of honesty
or lawful behavior.

It's only a temporary solution (I hope), but it's
the only solution he has.

4. do you really think so?
Americans are such a forgiving sort, they can hate you - and if you "see the light" and try to clean house - they will generally get behind you.

I think that Bush really could turn around if he tried some humble-pie and left some scapegoats hanging out to dry. The thing is, I don't think he has it in him to do that.

Too arrogant.

7. I don't think any "house cleaning" will cut it in this case.

I don't think there's a single one of them who isn't dirty-
you can't clean a house that's been built entirely of shit.

All you can do is LIE about the house, spray a lot of perfume,
and post a guard to keep people from getting close enough to
actually get a look at the place (Gonzales).

They can't afford to make anyone a "scapegoat", because their
crimes are simply too large. Every single thing they've done
has been tainted by corruption and illegality, every single one
in this administration is as guilty as the next. And they're all
connected to each other in multiple overlapping layers of criminal
behavior.

It's a house of cards, and tapping any single one will cause
the entire house to come down.
