Georgie the Cheerleader
Bush's approval is under 30% and Iraq is a disaster, yet he still seems upbeat about it all. There are those on the Right, like Kristol and Brooks, who attribute this to his unflinching resolve. Those of us on the Left think he is a delusional idiot.
But let's take into account that he's not a man who actually involves himself in the action.
Whether it was the Vietnam War or sports back at School, he stood on the sidelines and cheered the team on. When the team was behind, he didn't show worry or alarm, he shouted "De-Fense!" and "Go, Team, Go!". He wasn't in there getting his butt beat. No his job was to keep up his happy cheer, no matter what. Not unlike today.
