What's a good and credible news source?
When I'm not reading varying stories here at DU or watching local stories on TV I usually get my national/international news from the CBC. I also listen to Free Speech Radio News, I think it's a great program. I also use to listen alot to Democracy Now until I met Amy Goodman and well, now I don't listen to it much anymore. Are there any others?

13. I'd better explain it before everyone's heads burst!!!
I don't want to go into full detail, but I met her on her Static book tour last year when she came to my neck of the woods. I think she was having a bad day--she seemed a little angry, and pretty much was rushing through it. I went up to say hi and thank her, but she didn't seem to care and acted like it was a burden. At least I thought so, and I have been really put off since that day!

But, I still listen from time to time(her interview with Wesley Clark was grand!) and even though the personal encounter didn't go over well, I still fully respect and admire her journalism and hope to meet her again under better circumstances!

14. That'll put a damper on people you admire...
that's why avoid people like that. Though, I have to say, Michael Moore was a perfect gentleman.

I apologize for my skepticism.

24. With respect, I'm always shocked and disappointed when people draw sweeping conclusions
If someone gets in your face and tells you the invasion of Iraq is wrong, would you stack up on the other side because s/he is rude, abrasive, and inconsiderate? Gee, I hope not. I hope that you are able to transcend individual personalities and get to the heart of important issues. I'm shocked and disappointed to learn how many people who don't like a personality advocating a particular viewpoint or issue choose to abandon the issue as well. Seems superficial to me, but perhaps I just don't get it. American Communists backed the civil rights and labor movements. Does that mean both movements were wrong because they had commie supporters? I hope not.

2. Welcome to DU! I like McClatchy, though they don't
update their news all that often. But they are credible.

3. How did meeting Amy Goodman cause you to stop listening to
Democracy Now?
As for me I mostly use blogs like this, Kos and Firedoglake plus listen to AAr on the internet.

9. Meeting Amy only increased MY enthusiasm for DN
Like others, I'm perplexed as to why meeting her discouraged you from listening/watching her show. I've met her before. Twice in fact. She is dogged and dedicated, of course, but she also seemed remarkably authentic and friendly.

To answer your original question, I think a good and credible news source is actually multiple sources.

Although MSM TV news is dreck and should be avoided at all costs (unless you closely follow stories about endangered blonde girls), all news sources have blind spots and axes to grind. For that reason, it's good to consult multiple sources and, if possible, from multiple countries. It's a bonus if you can read and understand a foreign language because there's a lot of interesting news that's hidden out in plain sight because so many Americans are unable to speak a second language.
