Al Qaeda is in post-invasion Iraq = The Iraq war is a failure. |
|
Bush said today that he "presented intelligence that clearly establishes th connection" between al Qaeda and al Qaeda in Iraq. First, the fact that al Qaeda is now in Iraq is an admission of failure. What could be better evidence that the war in Iraq was a mistake than that? If we invaded Mexico as Richard Clarke believed would be as rational as invading Iraq in response to al Qaeda's attack on our country, and al Qaeda showed up there, that would hardly be a selling point as people might begin to ask, Mr. President, why not just attack them where they actually are to begin with.
The Democratic response should be to agree that yes, Mr. President, al Qaeda is now in Iraq and that is evidence that you really did screw up in both invading the country and in the way the war was carried out. You acted and then thought and thousands of people died. You are in executive malpractice and the American people will soon take away your license.
What to do now that al Qaeda is in Iraq
First, we should learn from our mistakes. Never invade a country unrelated to a group you want to attack as it would be much easier to simply attack them where they actually are and would serve to increase not destroy our credibility in the world. Imagine what you would think if your MD suggested cutting off your leg to treat emphysema. Would you recommend this MD to your family? Second, perhaps some forces should remain in Iraq but they should be small special op counter terrorist force not an invasion/police/occupation/rebiuld your country while your leaders on on vaction because it is too hot force. We should move the rest to Afghanistan, home, and Pakistan where they should have been to begin with. Third, we should only do so after this President is removed from office and apologizes for being completely stupid on terrorism.
