I support Hillary, Obama and Edwards
Edited on Tue Jul-24-07 08:41 PM by Taverner
And to be honest, any of them can win and I'd be happy.

Hillary plans to end the war her first day in office - making that claim alone is enough for her to get my vote.

Obama also plans to have an exit strategy implemented day one - gets my vote there.

Edwards wants to get out yesterday - I'm down with that, albeit physically impossible. He has my vote.

I support Pelosi who, despite her detractors, is doing ALL SHE CAN to get out as soon as possible, while at the same time making sure she can also get other great programs enacted.

As for running some illogical, pie-in-the-sky idealist - fuck that. Idealists don't get elected, and if they do everything goes to pot because their ideals get in the way of reality. W was an idealist. Gonzo is an idealist. Albeit for the wrong side, but look at their administration: complete pandemonium.

Fuck idealists.

I want a realist with a plan.

So any of the aforementioned candidates are good with me.

Rant over.

2. I Agree
In recognition of our extreme agony with the crowd we have "ruling us" right now, it's still governing and that can try ones patience. I remember years ago we used to say 'such and such would take an act of congress to change things.....etc,etc." and that's exactly what we're dealing with
here 'an act of congress' ( a veto proof one at that)

4. I definitely see what you are saying. And I also think that
Some folks are looking for the "perfect" politician. People are so hungry for leadership in this country, because we've been without it for almost 8 years.

However, I think it's important to remember: You are NEVER going to agree with any politician 100% of the time. If you find yourself agreeing with a particular politican 100% of the time, that should be cause for concern.

So for me personally, politics has always been about this one fundamental question: On the areas with which I disagree with a particular politican, can I live with those disagreements? Or are those issues too important to me, that I cannot live with those disagreements?

For example, the issue of D.C. voting rights is so important to me, that I could never support a politican who doesn't support D.C. voting rights or understand that issue. I may be able to overlook some other differences, but D.C. voting rights is a non-negotiable issue for me.

So, as we continue through this primary season, I hope people keep that in mind: you're never going to agree with any politician 100% of the time. The question: can you live with those differences and still support who will be the Democratic nominee?

9. So, your plan is to never, ever ask for what you want from politicians?
"Realism" = offering your used car for sale for $3000 when you might be able to get $5000. Common sense means putting your high end price in the classified ads, knowing that you will probably have to negotiate downward.

11. Let's cheer them when they get something right, even if it's not right now!
Minimum wage is the only thing they got done so don't knock it. You can't just raise minimum wage 3 dollars in one year. I know alot of small businesses in GA. that couldn't handle a raise like that. What's the point of increasing the min wage if small businesses have to drop half their payroll to implement it. I do agree with Edwards that the raise needs to keep marching past 7.50 or whatever it is and go up to around 9.50 to 10.00 and I agree with Obama that the min. wage needs to keep increasing proportionally to the increases in cost of living.

If we spent half the time cheering them for what they do right as we do jeering them when they fuck up, they'd get some confidence, grow some balls, and take our country back!
