Mark Udall (D-CO) responds to my insistence that he support impeachment.
So, a few days ago I followed a link here at DU leading to one of those one-stop sites where you can enter your zip code and send a message to all those who represent you in Congress - in my case, Udall, Ken Salazar (D), and Wayne Allard (R-Obviously). Udall, so far, is the only one who sent a reply. Here's what he had to say...

Dear Mr. *******:

Thank you for letting me know you think the House of Representatives should consider impeaching President Bush and Vice President Cheney. I appreciate your taking the time to get in touch.

The Constitution says "The President, Vice President, and all civil Officers of the United States" can be removed from office upon impeachment for and conviction of "Treason, Bribery, or other High Crimes and Misdemeanors." The House of Representatives has the sole power of impeachment, and the Senate has the sole power of trying a person who has been impeached. The Constitution defines "treason," and the meaning of "bribery" is generally well understood, but just what other offenses constitute "high crimes and misdemeanors" for purposes of impeachment is a matter of longstanding debate - as demonstrated when the House debated and adopted articles of impeachment against President Clinton. That was the second time a President was impeached, and the second time that the Senate failed to convict, leaving the President in office.

I am not a lawyer, and cannot claim to be an expert on impeachment. However, based on what I know now, I am not persuaded that it would be appropriate for the House to consider impeaching either the President or Vice President. I opposed going to war in Iraq and disagree with many other policies of the Bush Administration, and will work to change those policies. But at this point I think those changes should come through the normal legislative and political processes, rather than through impeachment.

Thanks again for contacting me. I welcome your letters and e-mails and always listen closely to what you and other Coloradans have to say. For more information, visit my web site at http://markudall.house.gov/HoR/CO02/home.htm.

Warm Regards,

Mark Udall
Member of Congress

Thanks, Mark. Thanks. :banghead:

I'll think of you when Chimp and Co. make the death of our republic official.

4. Seems like I've been getting a lot of those lately...
I wonder what it means? Perhaps my representatives in Congress are just so busy, the need these so-called form letters!

Either that, or they don't give a rat's ass about what I or the rest of the American people think and feel. But that couldn't POSSIBLY be the reason! Our representatives and senators care about EVERYTHING we say, think, and feel! To insinuate otherwise, well... That's unthinkable.

Mmm... I love me some :sarcasm:

9. I wouldn't hold it against him.
Our congresscritters receive more mail than they can possibly answer personally. I spoke with somebody who once worked in Senator Feinstein's office who said the Senator got 10,000 e-mails a week.

The letter are tabulated, just like votes. The congresscritter may have staff select a sample so he can get a feeling for why his constituents are reacting to a particular issue as they are.

No wonder Nancy doesn't think Impeachment should be brought up at the table if congresspeople are looking at it this way.

Btw, :wtf: do the bushits have to do to warrant IMPEACHMENT when so many of the average citizens think it would be a good idea already?

7. Gotta do my part, right?
It's just immensely frustrating that is seems like so few of our representatives are taking this matter so lightly... Bush and Cheney are SERIOUS criminals! It has to stop before it's too late.

8. Do a little research about what the House Juduciary committee
Considered high crimes and misdemeanors to be when referring impeachment against Nixon to the Senate and send them to Udall, along with citations of how they apply to Bush and Cheney.

Resend to your other Reps too.

I'lll do the same. : )
