US OIL DISCOVERY~LARGEST RESERVE IN THE WORLD

U.S. Oil Discovery- Largest Reserve in the World!
Stansberry Report Online
4/20/2006

Hidden 1,000 feet beneath the surface of the Rocky Mountains lies the largest untapped oil reserve in the world more than 2 TRILLION barrels. On August 8, 2005 President Bush mandated its extraction. Three companies have been chosen to lead the way. Test drilling has already begun

Five months ago, the U.S. Energy Department announced the results of a land survey

They reported this stunning news:

We have more oil inside our borders, than all the other proven reserves on earth.

Here are the official estimates:

8-times as much oil as Saudi Arabia 18-times as much oil as Iraq 21-times as much oil as Kuwait 22-times as much oil as Iran 500-times as much oil as Yemen¦And it's all right here in the Western United States.

James Bartis, lead researcher with the study says, Weâve got more oil in this very compact area than the entire Middle East.

Not cheap, easily drillable oil.

Study reveals huge U.S. oil-shale field
By Jennifer Talhelm
The Associated Press

WASHINGTON The United States has an oil reserve at least three times that of Saudi Arabia locked in oil-shale deposits beneath federal land in Colorado, Utah and Wyoming, according to a study released yesterday.

But the researchers at the RAND think tank caution the federal government to go carefully, balancing the environmental and economic impacts with development pressure to prevent an oil-shale bust later.

"We've got more oil in this very compact area than the entire Middle East," said James Bartis, RAND senior policy researcher and the report's lead author. He added, "If we go faster, there's a good chance we're going to end up at a dead end."

For years, the industry and the government considered oil shale” a rock that produces petroleum when heated” too expensive to be a feasible source of oil.

1. Uses more energy to get the oil out of it
than the oil produces when refined.

Only a dumshit like Connecticut native g w bush would think this was a good economical plan.

9. No easily accessed pools are left in the ground under the 48 states.
I've been told that, in Oklahoma and Texas, as much as 80% of the oil is still there. It's just not cost- or energy-effective to go after it. New technologies and rising prices have prompted some new drilling and re-opening of capped wells but, for the most part, the oil is just going to stay where it is.

12. Exactly. Exploration/extraction is literally WORSE than pointless. nm

2. The fly in the ointment
Water--the process of extraction requires many times more water than is available in the intermountain west.

5. it's not a recent discovery
Edited on Tue Jul-24-07 10:30 PM by frogcycle
been known for 150 years

these articles are trying to make it into a dramatic new development

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Oil_shale

it is an environmental nightmare - like strip-mining - to dig it up, then an expensive process to extract oil. It could no doubt be improved, but it is STILL burning fossil fuels, so although it might help 'energy independence' it does nothing for the bigger problem.

6. Oh, yeah...open pit mining...it's like that...
I've heard that the technology to do it cheaply is beginning to become available. It's horrible for the environment. It can pollute the groundwater, put carbon monoxide in the atmosphere and the processing generates a lot of waste material.

My grandpa worked in the oil field industry a long time and he told me about this type of mining some years ago. He saw the greed in the eyes of the execs when they discussed it.

7. I was thinking that sounded like the Nigerian emails.
"Just send us $1,200,000 so we can dig it out and you will triple your return!"

They have known for a long time that the shale was there. It can produce the oil with minimal energy input, however the damage done is stupendous. When will everyone realize that solar electric and thermal tubes are the way to go? No pollution and you can run your electric car for free. In case of a power outage your electric car will run your house. Off the grid scares the hell out of our rulers, as we would not need them any more. The prices are coming down fast and these systems have no moving parts,or not many therefore no maintenance except for keeping them clean. I'm retired from being an electrician, but have gotten NABCEP certified just so I can advise my friends on how to do it the best way for their application. I do free energy reviews and draw up plans for them. Anyway to thumb my nose at these rats who run things. I do consulting work for a contractor on commercial projects, but small residential unit are the way to go .
