Best Abortion Quote I have ever read.
"Economic policy and abortion are not separate issues; they form one moral imperative. Rhetoric is hollow, mere tinkling brass, without health care, insurance, jobs, child care and a living wage. Pro-life in deed, not merely in word, means we need a president who will do something about jobs, health insurance and support for mothers." Glen Stassen, Lewis B. Smedes Professor of Christian Ethics at Fuller Theological Seminary

right to control their own bodies. Individual women, and not "Christian Ethics" nabobs, need to be the ones in charge of their own reproductive systems. Period. End of discussion. That is non-negotiable.

There's also another "C" word missing from that quote, and that's contraception. Are the folks who claim to be so interested in reducing abortion rates going to accept that legal, accessible contraception combined with fact based sex ed AND contraceptive availability in schools is right up there with a livable minimum wage and a SPHC system in terms of real-world policy that might reduce abortion rates? Is the "Christian Ethics" crowd going to bite the bullet and accept that no matter how much finger-wagging they engage in, people are not going to stop screwing- or using birth control? I'm ecstatic- really- to see such support for universal health coverage and a livable minimum wage, but all the sugar-coating in the world isn't going to cover up the turd of an agenda of criminalizing birth control and abortion, if that's part of this dude's "moral imperative".

Here's the best abortion quote I'VE ever seen, and it really applies to just about everything a consenting adult might do with his or her own body:

"Don't Like Abortion? DON'T HAVE ONE."

5. No, no I wouldn't. I tried it one year for Halloween. Think Patrick Swayze in drag.
It's not a good look. But thanks!

3. I don't think that's what he's saying
I think the point is that if you're concerned about protecting the fetus, embryo, child or whatever one may wish to call it, instead of just punishing adults, that you need to think about these things first. I've always said that if abortion were criminalized, it wouldn't stop abortion. It might not even reduce the numbers that much. What *will* reduce abortion rates are broad-based economic prosperity, good reproductive education, and making concerned mothers feel that they and their child will be safe if they decide to go through with the pregnancy.

8. Absolutely. Make it so being a poor, single mom isn't such a cruel joke in this country.
But when all is said and done, the choice still needs to be up to individual women. And I don't think there's any need to apologize for that, either.

I'd like to see the "just punishing adults" crowd, instead of focusing on this stuff first (and then, presumably, moving on to the part about punishing adults) come to a grown-up recognition of and respect for the fact that individuals make choices, even ones they may not agree with.

And I think any kind of discussion about "reducing abortion rates" is ridiculous when we have an active campaign going on to encourage religious right pharmacists to lecture women about Jesus instead of filling their birth control prescriptions.

9. Best abortion quote...
In 1969, my sister had a friend who got pregnant at age 17. At the time, abortion was illegal in America. Is anyone foolish enough to think that law stopped this young girl from having one? If so; you're dead wrong! Back alley, UN-sterilized butcher knife, NO medical license, NEED I SAY MORE!!! I agree with Hillary Clinton's statement that abortion should be safe, legal and rare. Maybe the best man for the job IS a woman in 08. Impeach Dubya!!!!! Best abortion quote I've ever read: "I'm pro choice, and I VOTE!"
