House to Vote on Lee Bill to Ban Permanent Bases in Iraq

Yesterday I emailed you with an update of my trip to D.C. and let you know that a few things are brewing. One of them has come to a boil!

Last night, as reported in this article, the House leadership announced that legislation introduced by Congresswoman and PDA advisory board member Barbara Lee to prevent permanent military bases in Iraq and bar U.S. control over Iraqi oil resources will come up for a vote on the House floor tomorrow, Wednesday July, 25.

Please act now to ensure its passage.

Lee's bill, H.R. 2929, declares that it is the policy of the United States not to establish any military installation or base for the purpose of providing for the permanent stationing of United States Armed Forces in Iraq and not to exercise United States control of the oil resources of Iraq and prohibits the use of funds for these purposes.

U.S. presence is fanning the fires of sectarian and terrorist violence; a permanent presence will only add fuel to the fire. We need to send a message that the U.S. military plans to leave, if there is to be any hope of quelling the violence.

Please email your member of Congress now and ask him/her to support HR 2929.

Yours in the movement,

Tim Carpenter,
PDA National Director

3. Thanks!
She's my Representative - so there's no calls to be made by myself - aside from putting in my regular call to the Speaker of the House.

10. I worked at a NON-permanent base
It had been there for 25 years....but it was NOT permanent!!! OFFICIALLY not permanent!!

The term doesn't mean much in terms of what we actually do, can do, or might do. Not to bust bubbles, but that's the truth.

Taking phone calls on the air, I guess.

Good for her, I wish the rest of the Dems had her guts.
