We are often cautioned not to get too loony lefty sometimes, like here at DU when someone mentions something that gets them accused of making us all 'look bad' or crazy, to...I don't know, someone out there in the ether.

Do you ever stop yourself from saying things in certain circles in regard to bush and the neo cons and the war for fear of being ostracized as a left wing kook?

If you piss off a rush limbaugh listener with your lefty opinions don't you automatically look bad to this asshole of a person? No matter what you do or say, you will look like a lunatic leftist from la la land to the average shit for brains republican.

Exactly what IS too far left? How does one know when one has drifted too far over to the loony left? Is it when you start to 'look bad'?

And to whom are you afraid of 'looking bad'? Exactly who? And who gives a fuck if you look bad to a right wing traitor or zombie romney supporter?

1. don't care
been called worst in my lifetime

If i didn't care my DU name wouldn't be RADFRINGE (i.e. radical fringe), I would have chosen something else like "playingitsafeinthemiddleoftheroad"

2. I am willing to risk looking a bit looney
but then being over 40 puts you into that wonderful part of life where you really don't care what anyone thinks about you.

3. Been called names all my life
Some I blow off. Some I wear like badge. Names mean nothing to me.

4. What's funny to me is the people who think some DUers are the extreme left.
DU's far left is still closer to the mainstream then the true far left seems to be.DU would pop a collective forehead vein if real "fringe leftists" were here.

5. Nah. I'm a passionate, loony lefty, and proud of it.
My husband sometimes gets freaked out at some of my stands, but I don't care. He tends to play things cautiously, which is his right. I don't, which is my right.

If people think I'm a loony lefty, I really don't care.

As I tell MrSG, last time I checked, I still DO have the right of free speech (even though Bush and Co. are doing their freakin' best to try and erase that right).

My answer to that: FUCK 'EM!

I. DO. NOT. CARE.

6. As someone once told me where I worked:
"What are you worried about? That they think you're an asshole? They already think you're an asshole!"

The company went bankrupt about a year later.

7. In my universe, the loony part only shows up when the possessor
of that dubious quality advocates for enforced nationalization of all assets and resources, accompanied by an empty slogan such as "from each according to his ability, to each according to his need." At that point, barring labels, you have the rabid right wing. It's a circle.

Labels suck!

The only point - to me - about someone else's thumbnail opinion of me is that I wish to maintain an element of credibility. I might need that credibility.
If it's an opinion of someone whose opinion I value-another DU poster, for example-then it becomes more important.

If it's the opinion of some creche member of the hive mind at "Freek the Public" who gets his jollies from peering through the keyhole into DU and ejaculating his glee all over his fellows, I have difficulty summoning up any real concern.

10. No, I just shrug it off.
I get labeled "loony left" since I am a socialist/Marxist who knows the damage out-of-control capitalism is doing to our nation. I just try and educate others of this and if they call me crazy I'm not offended.

13. I try not to set them off
I've learned that the shell of willful ignorance around a Limbaugh fan is too much for the tools of casual conversation.
Once they start spouting that hateful pig ignorance it's as if that fat pigtard was right there in the room. And who needs that particular shit?
Fortunately these people have been thinning out.
Only when I penetrate the depths of Western Missouri do I have to worry about one of them in the room.
Indeed, if it follows the same pattern it did after Nixon, you'll be hard pressed to find anyone who will admit voting for junior.

17. Maybe I'm not a far leftist, because I consider far leftistry to be bad for America
I resent the implication that the only reason a person would reject fare leftistry is because they are weak-willed and don't want to be looked down on by zombies.
