Enough about Impeachment, where's my Inherent Contempt?
i don't regularly bother with keeping tabs with all the stuff that goes on on DU. but i was looking at my calendar -- it says wednesday and, oh dear, i'm up late! -- and after a whole weekend of flaming about filing for contempt (which i'm sure was eminently productive) i'm sitting here and seeing nothing but talk of impeachment again. did i miss something? was there anything done towards filing contempt in the past two days? did all the gnashing of teeth produce nothing? was it stonewalled because of something about 'not enough votes' even though there's enough votes for a simple majority for inherent contempt? obviously this seems to have been swept away around here.

so, since i only check in for a few hours in the dark of night, i'd appreciate some filler on what happened to this "sure thing." was the ball dropped again because there was fear from not having "the perfect storm"? are we waiting until the democrats (and the rare republicans for the constitution and sanity -- the few, the proud, the endangered) get a royal straight flush before they do anything? catch me up here; seems like that this issue was a slam dunk and only required the filing. why did it fall back into the memory hole?

2 Bush Aides to Face Contempt Citations

Wednesday July 25, 2007 9:31 AM

By LAURIE KELLMAN

Associated Press Writer

WASHINGTON (AP) - Heading toward a separation-of-powers showdown, House Democrats prepared contempt of Congress citations against two White House aides who have refused to comply with subpoenas for information on the abrupt firings of federal prosecutors.

The White House has said that Chief of Staff Josh Bolten and former legal counselor Harriet Miers, among other top advisers to President Bush, are absolutely immune from subpoenas because their documents and testimony are protected by executive privilege.

House Judiciary Committee Democrats, led by Rep. John Conyers, D-Mich., reject that claim and have drafted for a vote Wednesday a resolution citing Miers and Bolten with contempt of Congress, a federal misdemeanor punishable by up to a $100,000 fine and a one-year prison sentence.

The panel's vote is the first step on the road to a possible constitutional showdown in federal court.

If history and self-interest are any guide, the two sides will resolve the dispute before then. Neither side wants a judge to settle the question about the limits of executive privilege.

4. In the New World Order a Subpeona is only a polite request.
If it is refused or ignored it is thrown into the file cab in the basement.

11. No it isn't. Once the contempt citations are issued, everything changes.
The game then shifts....TO THE COURTS. And now it's "Whooza Gots the Most Brass?" that's about to be played out.

Remember, a REPUBLICAN appointed judge presided over the Libby trial. It wasn't his fault that Monkey issued a chunk of clemency to keep the bastard out of jail until he can pardon him.

Neither side wants a decision, JUST IN CASE it goes against them. That's precedence that is tough to undo.

There's opportunity for dialogue at every stage of the court and appeal process.

3. contempt or impeachment
before getting your hopes up - you have to wonder if Congress is willing to take the next step

the next step is moving ahead with contempt charges or impeachment - if not, then they might as well take a sip of kool-aid and grab a rubber stamp.

we've been on the edge of these waters many times before only to see the Dems scurry back to safe shores claiming the water is too cold

5. If the charge isn't Inherent Contempt it is meaningless.
By the time a normal contempt charge gets through the Courts the Busholini Regime will be out of office unless they decide to cancel the Election.

let's hope this leads to more info that builds a more damning case. which would hopefully force congress to go even further and bring much needed justice to this mal-administration!
