My husband's family is pretty sercretive about a lot of stuff. They recently said my nephew decided he would go to a military academy and then go to a local community college. He is known to get into trouble so I thought perhaps he was serving some sort of probation. On the other hand, he loves to go out hunting trying to kill things.
The family recently started sharing letters from our nephew. They came across more as something like boot camp rather than something to do over the summer until you go to school in the fall. Here is a letter that was shared:
XXXXXX has made a great jump forward! After a week's worth of letters that made his injuries sound increasingly worse and ending with a plea to come home, I got a letter yesterday saying that the PA had checked him out & he was going to be ok. He said that he still wanted to come home because he missed everyone, but that he was going to see it through! :-) Today brought THREE letters from XXXXXX - he was on bedrest Sunday and apparently got really bored! One was a request for some additional clothing items, so I'll send those to him tomorrow. Another was actually two of my letters to him that he commented on & answered questions in and then sent back. He said that he is staying busy, misses us all, and can't wait to visit on Family Day. His last letter, which was actually a letter, is pretty brief, so I'll share it: Hey mompster! How are ya? I miss you so bad!! My knee is getting better! It's getting a lot easier to do stuff right, cause I'm just starting to fall into the groove of things. I love you. Oh, yeah. I'm not wanting to leave any more. But anyways! How are you? And family? Here's my schedule: 0530 - Get up 0545 - Formation 0550 - Flag 0600 - PT 0630 - Chow 0700 - Latrine 0730 - Bus (they are going to Ft. Bragg every day right now for the Hardcore phase) 0830 - Arrive Ft. Bragg (begin the day's course) 1130 - Chow 1530 - Bus 1630 - Back at TCA 1700 - Chow 1730 - Latrine 1745 - Drill ceremony 1830 - Class 1930 - Latrine 1945 - PT 2030 - Showers 2130 - Lights out Personal time after showers & chores Love, XXXXXX So, thanks to everyone for encouraging him with thoughts & prayers & letters & cards! Once Hardcore is done, I'm sure it will be a lot easier for him. I was worried that, because he was an alternate, he might not stay after Hardcore, but he says his team has dropped from 60 to 35 people, so as long as he sticks with it, he has a place there now
Our family knows we are anti-Bush and anti-war so I am really starting to wonder if he wants to serve in this BS war and this is the run up to it. I am very worried about him and the worst thing about this is that even if we could talk to him, I think he is a koolaid drinker and he would still want to go.
Does anyone know anything about these types of things? Does it sound like he might be training for the illegal occupation? Even if I ask the family I know they would not admit it since they have not until now. Thanks for any input you can give me.
