Favorite Gonzo moments from yesterday.
Edited on Wed Jul-25-07 07:50 AM by King Coal
My favorite was when he said that he wanted to stay on as AG so that he could fix what was wrong with the office. Of course, that was rivaled by the one where he said that there was no rules governing how a man with a morphine drip reconvering from pancreatic surgery can change his mind.
Or how about when Spector asked him if he really expected anyone to actually believe him?

They couldn't write that crap.

3. Yeah, the "Ashcroft could reassume his powers" moment was classic
As if Ashcroft in post-op could take back his magical Attorney General powers long enough to do what Alberto and Andy wanted him to do, then turn things back over to Comey when he was done. Reminded me of the old Harlem Globetrotters gag where Meadowlark would call time out, everyone would stop and relax, then he'd call "Time back in!" and whip around his man for an uncontested dunk. Apparently, that joke was the Bush administration's template for governance.

Gonzo) Well I corrected my misspoken words to the committee 2 days afterwards to a
reporter.

Senator) And who did you talk to to?

Gonzo) some name @ the Washington Post.

Senator) You spoke with the reporter?

Gonzo) No, a spokeperson did.

Senator) And what did your spokesperson say?

Gonzo) I don't remember.

7. damn, I need to find a job where I can watch this stuff during the day
Of course, I might be too angry & frustrated to work if I saw that exchange! And, it probably wouldn't be too good for my blood pressure.

18. Ah, yes, they played that clip on NPR yesterday
I remember it a little differently;

Gonzo: I corrected that statement with the reporter 2 days later.

Spector: And what did you tell him?

Gonzo: I didnt talk to him.

Spector: (flustered) OK, what did your SPOKESPERSON tell this reporter?

Gonzo: I dont know.

6. It was a fine old time in the hot seat
I enjoyed how he was stumbling over himself trying to make excuses. HE flat out sounded like a ten year old caught in a lie and trying to get out of it with his hide intact. I don't think he made it.

I liked when Gonzalaz said that he ammended his statements to a journalist ,but he did know what he'd changed his story to, because he had sent an underling to do it for him.

That was funny

9. How about 'it was the Congressmen who sent me to get Ashcroft's approval'
That one was rich.

Or how about the one where he said that Bush, Card, and himself had a meeting just before they went to Ashcroft's room but Bush didn't tell them to go. Remember that Mrs. Ashcroft called Comey and told him that she had got a phone call telling her that they were comming and that Comey recalled that the call probably came from Bush?

10. Gonzo said he wanted to fix the "image" of the department
not the department itself. Basically, he was obfuscating again with that statment -- promising only a smokescreen of propaganda image so the department looks alright, while it remains corrupted to the core because of republicon malfeasance.

17. Or his ghost-writer did
How could you not remember signing a memo that you wrote?

Maybe they gave him an auto-pen so there is no chance he can read "his" memoranda before he signs them
