Favorite stupid repub reasons for continuing the war...
Some of my faves are:

If we don't defeat the enemy over there they'll follow us home.

We must continue sending troops to honor the fallen.

Leaving precipitously would cause Iraq to descend into chaos.

Al Qaeda is in Iraq.

The war in Iraq makes America safer.

To leave now would mean we didn't 'win', that we'd forever be seen as 'losers'.

Leaving Iraq before the job is done would mean that America was defeated.

Ending the war too soon would de-stabilize the middle east.

----------

What are some of your best loved stupid war slogans?

1. My bush loving BIL said in 2005 - "We'll, we are already there."
And my interpretation of honoring the fallen in conservative speak:

- More must die tomorrow so those that died yesterday did not die in vain.

12. How do you spell IRAQ in Vietnamese???
This one isn't over yet so we don't know how many have to die, but the last one stopped short of 56,000 and then some.

3. 9/11....terra terra....OBL
They won't follow us home - they are already here.
We can honor the fallen soldiers by not sending more to a senseless death.
Iraq is already in chaos - thanks to us.
Al Qaeda is in Iraq - thanks to us.
The war in Iraq makes the US more vulnerable because we do not
have enough troops here to protect us in the event of an attack on US soil.
The US lost when they made a pre-emptive attack based on lies.
Leaving Iraq will not mean defeat...you cannot win or lose an occupation.
The Middle East has been de-stabilized for years - thanks to us meddling.

4. frustrating: pols and pundits who say those know their lies, and those who listen
never bother to wonder if they might be wrong, or if what they are being told even makes sense.

5. I think you've got them all.
It's always the "descent into chaos" and "destabilize the middle east" I hear the most.

As if...!

6. And the real reasons: oil, hegemony, and empire with 14 permanent military bases to protect
the several trillions of dollars of oil revenues which will inure to the benefit of big oil. (Wonder if there will be any kickbacks from those trillions?)

7. all of the above
I "love" it when people say, "sure it's a mess, but if we leave now Iraq will go to hell." or something similar. While there's a hint of truth there, that's like stabbing someone in the stomach then refusing to pull the knife out because they might bleed to death.

I also "love" when someone accuses me of blaming America when I try to attempt to explain how our foreign policies for the past 50 years have gotten us where we are now, and how we really need to consider the repercussions of our current actions.

10. The Swift Boat Sockpuppet On Slimeball Last Night
They had the bufoon from the sham "veterans" group the GOOP has astroturfed to fight VoteVets, IAVW and other real veteran groups on the corporate media. This oxygen thief kept spewing talking point after talking point with little fact or reality to base it on. He truly demonstrated how lost both he and his horde and this war for profit is. He can't define a "victory" since his feckless "leader" has kept changing it so many times over the years. He can't even define who the enemy is cause he's been so kool-aided with fear and boogiemen. Instead you get lies, distortions and misinformation that is only created to give Repugnicans cover until their primaries and allow this regime to continue its war for profit.

I can sense we're getting near a "Tet" moment and soon. We soon may not have the option of withrawing at our own chosing and may have to shoot our way out just like we shot our way in.

11. "we haven't gotten the wmd's yet" seriously
My hubby works in a part of Iowa in which the 20some percent that still adore him live. These people he works with are still gung ho lovers and they keep saying this, of course they hand him articles from Ann Coulter and he just laughs at them.

Very scary.

15. Why don't you understand that the Islamofascists want to kill you?"
There are evil people in the world, and they want to kill you and destroy democracy and our way of life (unspoken premise is that all Muslims subscribe to this opinion and that the war in Iraq is the only way to deal with it).
