Contempt citations recommended for full House vote AFTER THE FRIGGIN' RECESS?
Contempt citations recommended for full House vote AFTER THE FRIGGIN' RECESS?

goddam it to hell (and, yes, i'm feeling VERY SHRILL!)...! we sit here and decry the iraqi parliament for taking august off and, while our constitution is in flames, our congress does the same exact goddam friggin' thing...

In a 22-17 vote, the House Judiciary Committee approved “a Resolution and Report Recommending to the House of Representatives that Former White House Counsel Harriet Miers and White House Chief of Staff Joshua Bolten be cited for Contempt of Congress.” The AP reports, “a vote by the full House would most likely happen after Congress’ August recess.”

1. We could be at war with Iran before Congress even reconvenes.
Bush has always taken congressional recesses to his advantage to do things they otherwise would've been there to block, like recess appointments.

to implement their plans for a complete takeover - attack Iran, implement martial law, etc., etc. This summer has many similarities to the leadup to the Iraq invasion, terror being hyped and war drums beating more loudly. One need only connect the dots.

That's selfish and childish.

Except when it comes to bashing one another's Dem presidential candidates...then we can be as selfish and childish as we want.

'Cause the '08 horse race is all that matters here anyway.

The law enforcement agencies will not act. You have to go around them. Impeachment is the only thing that can be done without any bushie getting involved in the prosecution.

19. And this is the mother of all shills.
Most of us, if a crisis comes up on our jobs, don't get to put off dealing with it until after our month-long vacation. Most of us don't get month-long vacations. If you think official pablum tastes yummy, that's your business, but don't go acting like there's something wrong with those of us who see it for the crock it is.

24. This is exactly right.
Most Americans, crisis at hand, work extra hours, nights, weekends, whatever it takes to get it done.

Congress, well, they'll get around to it after their month long vacation. There's nothing urgent going on anyway, right? We're just at war, could be on the verge of another one, and have a President who wants to be a dicktator (spelling intentional).

No biggie, enjoy your vacations, Congress. You're just slightly less worthless than our administration.

23. More Procedure
But I think this sets the stage for Conyers getting Inherent. The contempt will be turned down by the DOJ...as per his assholiness "Executive Privilidge" and this gives Conyers the justification to press for Inherent. It also answers questions as to how this regime will react...will they offer up people now or take their chances in court.

I would hope the whole House passes this contempt out sooner rather than later...and it'll be interesting to see how the netroots react to this.

32. The Dem stratedgy is to run out the clock. If that works and they win the
White House in 08, they will bring home some troops and leave a large contingent at the superbases, and run primarily an airwar against the Iraqi nationalists who want their country back from the occupiers.

We are going to be in Iraq for decades. At least until the oil runs out. That's the plan, and if you don't like it, well, you better get used to it. Because that what the bosses want.

41. All bases built in Iraq have a temporary label on them. That doesn't mean
anything...just semantics. They could be there for a hundred years and still be temporary. The new Pelosi proposal reiterates existing law to only build temporary bases in Iraq.

Busholini & Darth are real worried about those powerful Dems in Congress. A Censure on the Pres. is such a stressful piece of paper that their hearts are working over time. Oh well, the Congress has a whole month to kick back and relax while the Iraqi Oil is being secured while the troops & mercs sweat it out in Iraq.

43. I keep having flashbacks
to the Kerry campaign. Only this time it's the American people who are being "swiftboated" and our Democratic congressmen/women, along with their apologists, who are patting the alarmed naysayers (who now, as they were back in 2004, are begging for real action) patronizingly on the head assuring us they know what they're doing.

Never thought I would be thinking nostalgically about the good old days when the only thing we had to lose was an election.
