Rush, Malkin adopt Jared Townsend of Clio and his "baby" assault rifle. Cool, make him your America
Heard Rush today briefly (he was exceptionally nuts and incoherent, even for him) and see that he and Michelle Malkin (http://article.nationalreview.com/?q=ZTVmNGI0MmVmMDFlYmZiODdhYzM4ZjIwYjhlNDU3MTk=) are in a tizzy about Joe Biden ridiculing Jared of Clio and his "baby" question regarding his rifle. All I can say is that please, please, please adopt Jared as your representative American who is picked on by the mean Dems.

Hate to tell them this, but the gun control argument is not what's at play here - all but the 25 percent hard-core Bush supporters DO think Jared is nuts, or at least a legitimate subject for ridicule. (His "baby?" Good grief). So, make Jared the Symbol of the Republican Party; a person who America is supposed to identify with.

And go down in flames. Thank You!

(by the way, know-it-all Rush, it's ClIo, not ClEEo, you ignorant piece of crap.)

1. Its right there in the second amendment
every American will be armed with at least two loaded assault rifles and a trunk full of hand grenades, all for safety's sake. And Wal-Mart will sell loaded handguns at the checkouts just in case some motherfucker pisses you off in the parking lot. Just like Mr Madison intended.

Not ALL residents of Clio are nutbags, but since I've seen at least 2 episodes of American Justice where the nutbag rapist/child molester/serial killer/what have you are from Clio, I have to figure those folks need some help.

Edited on Wed Jul-25-07 06:52 PM by slackmaster
My eye problem makes it impossible for me to use a bolt-action rifle effectively for that purpose or hunting.

The AR-15 is one of the most commonly used rifles in serious shooting matches. They can be configured for excellent accuracy. The availability of a wide range of parts and the ease of changing them makes it the most versatile rifle you can own.

I can't see where it mentions "hunters and sportsmen" anywhere in the Second Amendment. And for the record, I don't hunt for sport, either. Don't care that much for it. I could hunt for food, I'm sure, but not for pure sport.

I have to shoot left-handed, and can't work a right-handed bolt action rifle effectively. Left-handed bolt rifles are costly and scarce, and most models are not available in southpaw versions.

Shooting became much more fun when I bought my first semiautomatic rifle, a Ruger 10/22. I bought my first AR-15 when the state of California started talking about banning them.

48. That kind of gun would be pretty bad for combat
The gun it looks like, the M-16, is capable of fully automatic (or, at least, burst-mode) firing, which is necessary when you're laying down covering fire. The rifle he held up is just semi-auto, and fires a much smaller round than more traditional-looking rifles that (for whatever reason) don't seem to scare people so much.

21. I'll tell you how I would have made my video gun control question
Edited on Wed Jul-25-07 06:55 PM by slackmaster
"Hello. I'm slackmaster of San Diego, California.

As a federally licensed collector of curio and relic firearms, I am concerned about bill HR.1022 introduced by Congresswoman Carolyn McCarthy of New York.

The bill, which has 51 co-sponsors, all Democrats by the way, is far more than a reauthorization of the expired assault weapons ban. It would classify as an assault weapon this World War II M1 Garand rifle, which I acquired from the Civilian Marksmanship Program last year. This particular one was loaned to the nation of Greece, and returned in excellent condition after the war ended.

If passed, HR.1022 would make it illegal for me to sell this rifle, give it to someone as a gift, or bequeath it to my heirs. It would become a crime for me to allow anyone under 18 to shoot or even handle it. My financial investment in it and several other old rifles I own would vaporize. I am 49 years old and consider my gun collection a part of my retirement savings. I keep them locked in this safe (pointing to big safe) to protect them against fire and theft.

Use of this type of rifle in crime is unheard of. They are owned by target shooters, hunters, war veterans, and history buffs like me. I see no benefit to public safety in stigmatizing a historic rifle like this one.

If you were President and HR.1022 or a similar bill reached your desk, what would you do, and why?"

I don't remember him naming any of his tools, whether shop tools, cars, guns or otherwise. However, sometimes they would cause him to issue a string of explicatives in their direction when they didn't do what he wanted.

I like the Winchester because it is low-tech, simple, and works. If you ever get/shoot one, be careful about the cartridge ejection spring. They wear out and cause the spent cartridge to get jammed on the way out. (sorry about non-technical terminology, I forget the precise names of some of the parts...need to go out and punch holes in paper sometime)

62. Biden's response was completely inappropriate
Edited on Fri Jul-27-07 12:24 PM by slackmaster
Let's stipulate that the gun guy is mentally ill, which is basically what Biden was saying. Suppose that rather than, let's call it a neurotic obsession with firearms, he had some other condition of similar severity, like obsessive cleanliness. Say he was like Jack Nickolson's character in the movie As Good As It Gets, fanatically washing his hands and avoiding touching everything.

Suppose his question was "What are you going to do to about the problem of germs in public places?" And Biden replied "If you're that concerned with germs, you need help."

Would the people who are saying Biden's reply was appropriate in the actual debate be saying the same thing? No, they'd be chiding him for being insensitive to a person who has real problems.

Let's cut through the sanctimonious bullshit and spell out the subtext here: Senator Biden hates guns and gun owners. It's not just a rational concern for public safety. Biden has a real chip on his shoulder. No reasonable person publicly makes fun of a mentally ill person. The truth is Biden doesn't think the guy is crazy, Biden hates him because he's a gun owner.

The questioner is probably a harmless eccentric with a mild obsession. He's probably a little rebellious like me and a lot of other people who don't like being told what they can and cannot do. Frankly, I never owned an AR-15 rifle until the California state legislature started talking about banning them.

Biden is bigoted, intolerant, and undeserving of the Democratic party's nomination.

You are blinded by your beliefs about guns. Its not trashing anyone if its true, and in this case it IS true.

Biden WAS rude to the guy.

Say he acted the same way toward someone in the context of supporting choice, or same sex marriage...

Would it have been equally as acceptable to you?

I understand your view of guns, and gun owners.

But take a step back and look at his actions for what they were. No matter the topic, a reaction like his is just plain bad. And as the poster you were replying to quite correctly eluded to...it will be used against Biden, and against the party.

Is that just fine by you? Do you have such a negative view of guns and gun owners that the damage improper handling of the issue causes is acceptable to you?

Barack Obama - or at least that's what he is claiming. And IMHO Biden again ran his mouth when he should've kept it shut. But I also blame CNN - they damn well knew that particular video would be inflammatory. I'd bet there were more "reasoned" questions on gun control.

Perhaps that's why Townsend, who has never missed an opportunity to vote, according to his parents, doesn't toe either party line.

"I don't consider myself a Democrat or Republican," he said. "I vote for who I like."

And at the moment, he likes Sen. Barack Obama.

"He's not afraid to make a move and go for it," Townsend said of the senator from Illinois.

45. The 2nd Amendment has nothing to do with loony comments
The man said something odd and Biden commented on it, I don't see what the big deal is, but once again right-wing nuts make something out of nothing.

64. Biden's response showed a lack of self-discipline, he displayed his true colors
He's a hot-head who is incapable of the kind of diplomacy needed for real leadership.

51. Did Richardson also respond to the gun control question? Link?

I didn't see the debate -- I've only seen the youtube vid of the question and Biden response. But I just read that Richardson had responded first. Does anyone have a youtube link for richardson's response?

52. Compare Richardson's response to Biden's

Richardson was much more reasonable and something I could support. Of course, he was not rude to the gun owner and not particularly pithy in his answer, but he gave a good response.

61. I somewhat expected his prop in his question
When I first saw the question, from the looks of the guy I pretty much figured he would use some sort of gun as a prop in his question. However, what I was expecting was for him to pull out a hunting rifle, or maybe a small handgun one may keep in his dresser drawer for protection.

I was not expecting him to pull out an automatic assault rifle.

I'm sorry, there's just no excuse as to why someone (other than a man in uniform) needs an automatic assault rifle. It's just so gratitious and unnecessary.

Imagine if it had been Seung-Hui Cho on that video. Didn't the news eventually stop showing his home video of him brandishing his guns?

63. The rifle is semiautomatic, not automatic.
You have been duped by propaganda.

66. Ya been had.
"The semi-automatic weapons' menacing looks, coupled with the public's confusion over fully automatic machine guns versus semi-automatic assault weapons — anything that looks like a machine gun is assumed to be a machine gun — can only increase that chance of public support for restrictions on these weapons." — Josh Sugarman, 1988, Violence Policy Center.

Ya been had.
