Bible Belt Blogger: The Vultures of Tammy Faye

It's an odd phenomenon, but it's there, on ebay.com. In the wake of the PTL Club co-founder's death, Tammy Faye merchandise is popping up on-line. ebay.com had 216 items for sale on Monday afternoon, including "Tammy Faye RIP" and "Good Bye Tammy Faye" t-shirts; copies of her "I Gotta Be Me" autobiography and her PTL Club record albums.
Most expensive memento -- a PTL puppet doll for $100.
Oddest item so far -- A credit card receipt from a PF Chang's China Bistro in Missouri (current bid -- $1.00).
Comment: I suspect that's really P.F. Chang's, and you're right, that certainly pales in comparison to the paper doll. I'd think there'd be a big market in Tammy Faye-ish kitsch these days. I remember one time I went to Gatlinburg (and no, I haven't gone back) and every touristy store there was full of t-shirts that said "I ran into Tammy Faye," with a picture of her running mascara. I'd like to have one of those now just for old times' sake. (Caleb Powers, Lexington, Ky.)
