Jeff Norman: Conyers Office Said Conyers Meant Three Reps Enlisted By Everyone In Room

"I spoke to an aide in Conyers’ office yesterday (unfortunately, I forgot his name), and asked him to explain the discrepancy between what Conyers said in San Diego on Friday, and what he said on Monday to Cindy, Ray and the Rev. The aide told me others had also asked, so he checked with the Congressman, who explained that in San Diego he meant that he needed each person in the room to enlist three members of Congress to support impeachment. I replied that, according to the videotape I had seen online, Conyers said no such thing, and I asked the guy if he had seen the tape. He said: "Actually, I was in the room when he said it." So then I asked him if it had sounded to him as if Conyers meant that he needed each attendee to enlist three members of Congress. His answer was something like: "Well, it wasn’t very clear what he meant." So then I asked about how many people were in the room, and the aide said about 200. "So your boss needs more members of Congress than exist to support impeachment?" I asked calmly (in my best Ray McGovern tone of semi-restrained outrage). "Well," the aide replied, "He wasn’t being precise.""

Here is a transcript of what Conyer said:

CONYERS: Now, let me close with this one suggestion, is that I need some Members of Congress to come to me and say Mr Chairman of the Judiciary Committee, I heard you were out in San Diego, and they really put it to you, and you made commitments that we don't know if you were just saying, saying something to get out of that hotel alive or were you, or were you serious and here's what we need to do. We need to have three Members of Congress from anywhere come and say, "Congressman, if you... if you are willing to support an inquiry into a resolution of whether there had been acts of impeachability conducted by, the Vice President of, and the President of the United States, that could lead to High Crimes and Misdemeanors, then we will join you if you introduce such a resolution."

SPECTATOR: With House Resolution 333, you have that right now, do you not?

CONYERS: No, I, I, this is something that we are working on right now. We don't have it right now.

SPECTATOR: We do have House Resolution 333.

CONYERS: I'm talking about more. Look. And so let us, let us see how many people would be willing to back us up, in addition to the ones --

3. I seriously REALLY want to know what is REALLY happening on this.

All the sidestepping, by someone who heretofore has been solidly FOR IMPEACHMENT, smells of something big and strong.

WHAT THE HELL IS REALLY GOING ON IN OUR CONGRESS??

11. There's always something just around the corner that's going to be the big breakthrough,
and then the misadministration will be toast.

5. I believe Conyers has a good heart and would like to do the right thing but...
He is entrenched and IMO concerned more for his own well being than that of America...Just my perception. and you know what the worst part is, he is our best hope...

16. My unsolicited advice is this.
Using names like that makes people think you have nothing useful to say. They also might think you're just stirring the pot. Bring out things to bolster your viewpoints instead. There is no offense intended in this post to you.

13. Trust and faith
Two things that have absolutely no meaning in a political discussion because neither is based on any real facts.

I would like to pin the future of my country on more solid ground than trust and faith.

between incidents is all this means (which has been my thoughts on the subject). I may be wrong but I doubt it.
