http://www.afterdowningstreet.org/?q=node/25089"I spoke to an aide in Conyers’ office yesterday (unfortunately, I forgot his name), and asked him to explain the discrepancy between what Conyers said in San Diego on Friday, and what he said on Monday to Cindy, Ray and the Rev. The aide told me others had also asked, so he checked with the Congressman, who explained that in San Diego he meant that he needed each person in the room to enlist three members of Congress to support impeachment. I replied that, according to the videotape I had seen online, Conyers said no such thing, and I asked the guy if he had seen the tape. He said: "Actually, I was in the room when he said it." So then I asked him if it had sounded to him as if Conyers meant that he needed each attendee to enlist three members of Congress. His answer was something like: "Well, it wasn’t very clear what he meant." So then I asked about how many people were in the room, and the aide said about 200. "So your boss needs more members of Congress than exist to support impeachment?" I asked calmly (in my best Ray McGovern tone of semi-restrained outrage). "Well," the aide replied, "He wasn’t being precise.""
Here is a transcript of what Conyer said:

We need to have three Members of Congress from anywhere come and say, "Congressman, if you... if you are willing to support an inquiry into a resolution of whether there had been acts of impeachability conducted by, the Vice President of, and the President of the United States, that could lead to High Crimes and Misdemeanors, then we will join you if you introduce such a resolution."
SPECTATOR: With House Resolution 333, you have that right now, do you not?
CONYERS: No, I, I, this is something that we are working on right now. We don't have it right now.
SPECTATOR: We do have House Resolution 333.
CONYERS: I'm talking about more. Look. And so let us, let us see how many people would be willing to back us up, in addition to the ones --
