(Just wanted to express these thoughts again, in a way that might not get the thread locked. If you've read them before, my apologies. If not, I hope you'll read and consider them. If you disagree with me, that's fine....we all have the right to disagree with one another.)
I am a very loud voice for impeachment and I have all the respect in the world for John Conyers. And, I'm STILL involved in the civil rights movement. I won't use Rosa Parks and MLK, Jr. against Conyers.
Having said that, John Conyers is not above criticism. Neither is Cindy Sheehan. Good people, in good faith, can disagree. I support Cindy Sheehan AND John Conyers.
Cindy, I believe, understood something that MLK, Jr. CERTAINLY understood. Civil disobedience comes with a price. If you break the law to demonstrate how unjust it is, you still have to go to jail. I don't hear Cindy complaining about that. And, it doesn't diminish John Conyers in my eyes, either.
However, I've been disappointed with John Conyers in the last couple of days because of the roller-coaster ride he put us on. A couple of days before telling Cindy, "elections are the only recourse," he made it sound like he was ready to impeach..."What are we waiting for?" That's what HE said.
IMO, it's not a good thing to antagonize Conyers. IMO, it's neither a good thing to raise the hopes of your political base, and then dash them on a rock two days later.
Both Cindy and Conyers are right, most of the time. And, both Cindy and Conyers are wrong, sometimes.
MLK, Jr. said, "Justice delayed is justice denied." That's not a slam on Conyers. I think he's working hard. But, in the meantime...more kids like Casey Sheehan are being killed in an illegal war that we cannot win, and which makes the world more dangerous.
You can stand with Conyers, or you can stand with Cindy. I'll stand with both. And, I will criticize either one when I feel it is warranted, and won't apologize for it.
And, I assure you, no one wants impeachment more than I. That's not possible.
