Al Gore sums it up as the true statesman that he is
As John Adams wrote in 1780, ours is a government of laws and not of men. What is at stake today is that defining principle of our nation and thus the very nature of America. As the Supreme Court has written, "Our Constitution is a covenant running from the first generation of Americans to us and then to future generations." The Constitution includes no wartime exception, though its framers knew well the reality of war. And as Justice Oliver Wendell Holmes reminded us shortly after World War I, the Constitution's principles have value only if we apply them in the difficult times as well as in those when it matters less.

The question before us could be of no greater moment: Will we continue to live as a people under the rule of law as embodied in our Constitution? Or will we fail future generations by leaving them a Constitution far diminished from the charter of liberty we inherited from our forebears? Our choice is clear.

2. Ditto
Everyone else is now talking. Gore spoke about this in January 2006.
Maybe they're reading The Assault on Reason.

4. That guy would be a heck of a President. Hope he surprises us and runs....
I truly believe he is the one that can lift this country out of the muck, while Clinton or Obama will just guide us through it better than the Republican nominee would.

And which candidate is our best hope for a "take-no-prisoners" strategy to save the planet???

coming from someone who thinks impeachment of Bush would be a waste of time.

9. did you read his book?
He is a firm believer in the democratic process and understands things take time.

The Senate was designed to be a deliberative body and he accepts that. That is what the founders wanted.

8. Al Gore The Assault on Reason
I don't think President Gore is going to run again and after
reading his latest book I have to say that it is truly our
loss.I wasn't aware ,until I read this book, the magnitude of
that loss.Al Gore is a true patriot and I believe everyone can
benefit from the intelligence he so graciously shares with us
in The Assault on Reason.A must read.

He SHOULD have been our president for the last 6 years. I feel like we're stuck in a bad Twilight Zone episode! What kind of f*cked up bizarro world do we live in? :(

14. Exactly...
but I don't think he'll follow the rest of the lemmings off the campaign cliff just yet. I can see where he may be struggling with this decision, but I can also see where he wouldn't want his campaign set by the "Media Horse Race" terms. There's still time for him to jump in this fall. Let Hillary, Obama, and Edwards spend their money and make the populace weary of them with each day up until then.

17. I haven't decided on my second choice...
I'm considering Edwards or Richardson... either would make excellent Vice President to Gore as well.

15. Ha! You think the "moralizers" on DU would stand for that?
Read the posts (and they seem to be increasing in frequency).

Many are no longer interested in the rule of law- if they ever were in the first place.

I guess that's what 2 decades of hate radio and TV "news" will get you.

The whole debate is wearing on me. Maybe because its not a debate but a name calling flamefest?

22. Gore/Dean 2008
He still has time to enter. I still think he will. I've always thought sometime in September will be when he makes the move. I don't think he'll be able to stand by and watch the media anoint Hilary the same way they anointed shrub. Look what that got us. If he really believes what he wrote in his books, he just won't be able to ethically shirk his responsibility. He is just too moral of a man.

And I get it too... It surely was a tragedy that the people of this country let that moment pass when they had it in their grasp, but I sure am grateful that you are still here leading the way to a brighter future wiser and more at peace with your life.
