DEA raids LA medical marijuana clinics

By ANDREW GLAZER, Associated Press Writer
1 hour, 16 minutes ago

LOS ANGELES - Federal agents raided 10 marijuana clinics
Wednesday, the same day city leaders introduced a measure
calling for an end to the crackdown on the dispensaries
allowed under state law.

The bust netted five arrests, large quantities of marijuana
and cash, and was the U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration's
second-largest since California voters approved medical
marijuana sales in 1996. The drug remains illegal under federal
law.

DEA spokeswoman Sarah Pullen said the timing of the bust and
the city's action was "purely coincidental."

The agency has maintained the clinics are distribution points
for illegal drugs and earn their owners big profits. Those
arrested Wednesday included clinic owners and managers,
though no patients, for investigation of marijuana distribution.

6. Pretty liberal (ie reasonable).
I'd have to look up the federal policy, because for years pot policy has been dealt with by the individual cantons. Here in Ticino, it's pretty liberal. There was a newspaper story three or four years ago about a guy whose whole crop (as in a full field of it) was harvested/stolen in the middle of the night -- he reported the theft to the police and there were no repercussions to the grower.

I would think that it would be pretty difficult to enforce any sort of prohibition here via US-type "surveillance" methods, anyway. Low-THC seeds are commonly mixed in with commercial bird seed sold in garden centers and it has weed status where we live. In fact, I have to pull up the jillion little hemps in our garden every spring and summer to keep it from choking out my tiger lilies.

Hi, friend!

4. Big PHRMA wants to destroy all health care options that threaten its monopoly.
This is just one example. And they now can use the DEA to destroy any alternative to using their poisons.

5. The DEA have been very fascist for a long time......
Michael Levine The Big White Lie : http://www.amazon.com/Big-White-Lie-Cocaine-Epidemic/dp/156025064X

In a shocking expose, Michael Levine--former undercover agent for the Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) and author of the 1990 nonfiction bestseller Deep Cover --rips the lid off the sewer of what he argues is America's phony "war on drugs." Levine, writing with his wife, charges that the CIA and the Pentagon have for decades protected and supported the world's biggest drug dealers, and that the U.S. government has allowed top-level dealers and criminals to escape punishment.

And if you want to go further down the rabbit hole check out this guy
from the CIA and DEA who worked in Arkansas.

17. Meanwhile, the House voted to allow these raids to continue.
Last night, the House of Representatives defeated the Hinchey-Rohrabacher amendment, which would have barred the use of federal funds to do these raids in states where medical marijuana is legal.
The vote was 165-262. Mostly Democrats voted for it.

18. But I thought Republicans are for "State's rights"
:eyes:

Our local Liberal talk-radio show is talking about this issue right now and brought up a good point. What's stopping the fed from coming into any state and overriding all state laws? If these federal raids continue that's exactly where we're headed.
