Please stop the flashing, moving ads on DU |
|
I have had vertigo for more than 23 years. It's a problem relating to calcium crystals in the inner ear fluid. It's much better than it used to be -- at least I can drive now. When it first struck, I couldn't even turn my head to look both ways before crossing a street, without becoming so dizzy that I had to sit down on the pavement.
I avoid movie theaters because of all the zooming special effects. Even if they're showing a non-action film, the teasers they run before the main feature are enough to make me seasick. I can't stand tv commercials that do this sort of thing.
The blinking, flashing, jiggling ads on DU and other websites literally make me dizzy and ill. And there seems to be no way to turn them off.
These ads are an annoyance or a distraction to many internet users, but to me they are much worse. I generally avoid sites that make heavy use of them. I'm finding myself visiting DU far less than I did a year ago because of these blinking ads. And I certainly won't buy anything advertised in this manner.
Does anyone else out there get seasick from them too? Is there a way to switch them off?
Thanks, LibE

If you have a donor star, you can turn off the ads.

I use Firefox and I never see animated/flashing ads with the following setup:
Turn off image animation: go to about:config and set image.animation_mode to "none" Install Flashblock extension: Flash graphics don't play unless I click on them Install Scriptbuster extension: blocks Javascript unless I enable it for a site Install Adbuster extension: blocks graphics from ad sites
