LEAHY To Seek Gonzales Perjury Probe
Senator Patrick Leahy announced yesterday that he will give Attorney General Alberto Gonzales until next week to change his sworn testimony about a March 10, 2004, White House briefing for members of Congress about the NSA’s warrantless wiretapping program. Gonzales told the Senate Judiciary Committee that the reason for the briefing was to address “intelligence activities,” but a May 2006 letter Congress received by then-Director of National Intelligence John D. Negroponte described the congressional meeting as a "briefing on the Terrorist Surveillance Program." If Gonzales’ testimony does not change by next week, Senator Leahy told reporters that he’ll ask Justice Department Inspector General Glenn A. Fine to conduct a perjury investigation: "I'll ask the inspector general to determine who's telling the truth."

1. Very good.
This is the type of thing that we should find encouraging.

4. Duh, umm, I forgot.
Given their performance at every hearing, these people wouldn't be able to get a job slinging burgers, but they keep getting passes.

I'll believe it when I see it. But I am hopeful. It seems that every appearance since January has been leading up to something big. It just kills me that it takes so long to line up the ducks.
