Bush has a great idea. Let's take him up on it. |
|
I was driving into work today and heard on the news that Bush is going to ask the Congress to stay in session in August to finish up the next Iraq War funding bill.
I say we take him up on the offer. Iraq's parliament is going to take an August break while our troops remain in harm's way. Dubya look's like he's headed to Crawford. I say we keep Congress in session, and work on the Iraq funding bill...THIS TIME WITH A DEADLINE FOR TROOP WITHDRAWAL that is tied to funding for the purpose of bringing them home. If the Republican Senators keep filibustering the Levin/Reed amendment...keep them overnight--EVERY NIGHT.
And, when that bill passes, and Bush once again vetoes it, say "we did what you asked. We stayed her in August to get that funding bill to your desk, only to have you veto it. You won't be getting any more funding bills to sign."
And, then while we're at it...since Congress will be in session, there won't be any need to delay voting on the Contempt of Congress charges for Bolten and Miers. Get that done, and forget about sending it to the D.C. US Attorney....since they're in session, when they otherwise wouldn't be...hold inherent contempt trials ON THE FLOOR OF THE HOUSE.
While they're at it, perhaps they can push along perjury charges and impeachment for Gonzo.
Yep, I think Bush has a great idea!! TAKE.HIM.UP.ON.IT.

a good idea, and I like your plan, one small point if * veto's the funding bill keep submitting the same one to him until he finally gets it. In between submissions, I agree impeach Gonzo and then Cheney, sounds good to me!!!

5. I'll go along with that...but, we've got an opportunity here |
|
to rub Bush's nose in it. I say we do it.

3. Considering the threat of recess appointments (for AG, even, perhaps?) |
|
I think that's precisely what Harry Reid has in mind.
Iraq funding runs out on 9/30; if they recess, they won't get to anything until 9/3 and Reid says he will hold up the funding bill until Reed/Levin or very similar passes.

27. Recess appointments are a great reason to stay on the job. |
|
Has any president abused the "recess appointments" rule to the extent Da Blivet has?

10. This will be the news tonight, or part of it.... |
|
And, if Reid and Pelosi turn the tables on Bush and keep the Congress in session, it will take away Bush's talking point that is obviously going to follow: "Well, our Congress took an August break, why not the Iraqi parliament." Not to mention that it will REALLY piss off the Republicans in Congress.
We've got a win/win for us and a lose/lose for Bush if we've got the guts to do this.

14. On the radio this morning, it was reported that Bush would |
|
come to Washington to sign a funding bill into law. Bush is bluffing here, IMO. He thinks that the Congress will take a break, allowing him to score some political points. I say we call his bluff and make him put his cards on the table.

They won't be able to push the "do nothing Congress" meme. Remind the American people on a daily basis of the grave harm that Bush is doing to our country.

15. One minor problem with your logic... It means that the Dem's have to |
|
suffer along with the Republicans on this... Not fair for those that do support Troop withdrawl with time lines.

else get as much time off with pay as they do? It sure as hell won't hurt them to to work a few extra weeks for a change. Hell for every one day holiday they take 10 days off, the poor babies ought to be able to "SUFFER" a little for the country.

|
After all the talk about the Iraqis going on vacation, why should our congress be on vacation while our troops are "in harm's way" as they like to say, and it's 130 degrees?

The troops are slogging through the Iraqi heat while the politicians are in air conditioned buildings in Iraq & DC. What a comparison!

If bush wants to continue his little war, let him pay for it. If no bill reaches the floor, he won't have anything to sign.
