Freepers Let Down by "Guy In The Reagan Mask" Fred Thompson
Edited on Thu Jul-26-07 04:34 PM by K8-EEE
If you were wondering how long Thompson could go on saying or doing absolutely nothing about anything (thus endearing himself to knuckledraggers everywhere) it seems his choice of campaign staff has rattled the majority of them, to the angst of adoring Freeptards. Freep fights & hijinx ensue! Kinda funny!

The GOP are in a fix IMO: they can't win without Freepers showing up in droves, but they've been so burned by Bush they aren't going to go for wink-wink-nudge-nudge on their agendas; and anybody embracing crazy freep "values" will be rejected by the sane majority.

My fave:

So some significant fraction of Fred's "supporters" have turned out to be hysterical nitwits. That's a shame. I thought he drew a better crowd. Oh well. We'll have to carry on without ye.
I'm quite sure Fred, or any other candidate, would not want people who are insipid boors like you representing them or denigrating his real supporters. Your hysterical name-calling because some supporters correctly question the appearance someone like Abraham gives to Thompson's campaign plays right into the hands of those who claim all Thompson supporters are weak-need moderates looking for a comfortable savior.

Damage that "supporters" like you do lead one to think that your real agenda might be the success of another candidate.

1. Worst. Site. Design. Ever.
How on earth can you read that place? My eyes are shooting all over trying to differentiate between the posts and the layout.

What a mess.

10. Will I get lynched if I mention one thing their site does better?
Edited on Thu Jul-26-07 04:44 PM by Bicoastal
Their search mechanism is a mite easier to use than ours, and it's faster to boot.

...of course, I only use it to look up keywords they're sure to be embarassed about, such as "David Vitter," "McCain campaign," and "Presidential approval rating."

17. They have no overhead (system wise)
That is why it is fast. Problem is, no matter how fast you search, your head with explode on your body if you stay very long. I was on *nix list-servs in the early 90s that had more glitz to them.

That site is really screwed up. They should take some ques from DU's design... or at least every other freaking modern design.

It's far too hard to follow what the hell is going on there... then you have the idiots who visit there, and it just makes it impossible to understand anything.

Kind of reveals that they have about as much clout within the GOP as we do within the Democratic Party.

14. I was very deeply worried about Fred getting into this thing
I'm a Law & Order addict, I detested his Senate time but couldn't help remembering how badass I always thought he was in some of my favorite movies: CIA Director in No Way Out, an Admiral in Red October, chief of staff in In the Line of Fire, and he was a great foil for Jack McCoy on constitutional interpretations and the like.

Hate his politics, total sucker for his film presence...and if he had *me* all woo-woo, he'd be a ball of rolling woo-woo thunder, a machine, out there on the GOP trail surrounded by base freakers and the stench of Bush's failure all around, everyone desperate for the fantasy again after all this reality in their beautiful minds, and he'd deploy that stacatto rumble of a voice made diamond sharp from all that training, he'd give one big bark of a Reagan-kissy speech with that voice and knock everything over like a big wind.

I was worried about that. Becoming less so. He's not wowing the press boys, and has said some deeply dumb stuff (A blockade of Iran? I'd like to see him get the warships onto the Syrian border, or the mountains, or...), and he got a lot of McCain's money, which wasn't much, and isn't going to get in until Labor Day.

I feel better by the day. I hope he gets nominated, so he can give that big speech and then get his ass beat in.

22. Man I JUST DON'T GET his appeal!!
He just seems like such a dumbass....almost like there's something wrong with him! I never watched his TV/movie stuff though. If he's a decent actor he should stick with that because his political speeches are just kind of embarassing.

27. I've never seen any speech by him.
But I'm a decent weathervane for what folks may jump for him. Half my family is Alabama, all on my father's side, and I'm a sucker for any performer who can voice-act Pickett's words before the charge and out-boom the cannons on the Gettysburg ridge.

That's the base. They elect Republican presidents if they want to. We shall see...that pro-choice advocacy stuff he did is coming out more and more, and that's like sunlight to vampires for that bunch.

30. I see Giuliani/Huckabee or Giuliani/Brownback as the ticket
The Super-Mungo Primary on Feb. 5th favors the *choke* more moderate GOP guys like Rudy, because all the giganto-delegate states are happening that day. The southern GOP base thinks Rudy is in the wrong party, he's gun-grabbing abortionist yankee city heretic for them, but that Big Tuesday negates their strength of numbers.

In my mind, a Rudy nomination is vital to the welfare of this country. If Rudy gets it, the base's chokehold on the GOP will be broken, and they'll have a non-fundy-bible-banger/non-prisoner-of-same on the top of the ticket for the first time since Gerald Ford. Huckabee or Brownback will be second on the ticket to try and bring back the base voters, Huchabee speaks better, but in the end, the best thing Rudy could do for America is to win the nomination and get his ass kicked in the general.

18. Check this out from FredState--entitled, "I'm Off the Thompson Bandwagon"
http://www.redstate.com/blogs/dougie_fresh/2007/jul/25/bye_bye_f_thompson

"This isn’t my statement but I think it sums up his candidacy. “Fred Thompson has made a career out of doing nothing.” He was a light-weight Senator at best, and his one memorable act was his strong support of McCain-Feingold. Unfortunately, the other candidates are victims of who Republicans HOPE Fred Thompson will be, not who he is or will ever become. Delaying an announcement and keeping unscripted Fred away from the cameras extends this dream. Let us hope it doesn’t end as a nightmare for the party.

Support this manufactured candidate, if you will, but I am through. I am not happy about it, but for now Rudy leads my preference list, but it is subject to change."

Honestly I am completely clued out to his supposed magnatism. Whenever I've seen him speak he's just sounded like an old fool droning on and on about NOTHING. If I ever heard an original thought from him I'd about fall off my chair.

but think Katherine Harris would be just perfect:

I'm sorry, but this is a horrible pick by Fred. There are plenty of up-and-coming conservatives to pick from. Toomey, Steele, Katherine Harris for examples.

29. The solution to the GOP's quandry is a Hillary Clinton nomination.
That's why they (and the corporate media) are both selling her so hard. They can't promote any ideas, because they haven't got any beyond the looting the public, and they've angered pretty much everyone but the hardcore fascists and the oil industry executives.

But hate... ah, that's always the easiest path anyway. Put Hillary Clinton up there and you've got a motivated right-wing base. Don't even have to give them anything.
