15. he mentioned it on Leno. he was informed of it an hour or so before |
|
he went on
he hadn't told his family at that point.
Leno was VERY supportive, btw
non of the CNN treatment
very inspiring, for the most part ESPECIALLY when he had the three 911 workers stand up -- they were in the audience
people on other threads said the Sicko Card part was lame, but I didn't think it was that bad, especially when compared to other gimmicks, and he was pretty engaging, funny, poignant, etc, for the most part
the audience was pretty much behind him, as well
he told an interesting little story about how Harvey Weinstein called him EVERY day for awhile, before the film's release, demanding he take the part about Hillary's healthcare apostasy out. because he's one of her major backers

51. it's ALWAYS about the media, and what sort of exposure given (or not) |
|
JFK was the first one to really take advantage of TV, after the baby steps taking by Ike
Nixon's handler's learned their lesson. look who was behind his 68 campaign. read "The Selling of the President"
then Reagan took it to heights only exceeded by Dumbo, and that only because of the MUCH more active complicity of M$M (they were merely passive during Reagan, spewing his video images, as provided daily by Deaver, etal)...see On Bended Knee
by active complicity, I mean the M$M was very careful to IGNORE all the major stories about Chimp in 99-2000, or else he'd never have gotten the nomination, much less been in a position to steal the election
but that should be obvious to everybody here
just flogging a dead dolphin on this but, but it just sticks in my craw that people don't but as much/MORE blame on media than they do the republicans. M$M CHOOSES to report/not report what they do.
etc
etc
that's why we're still in Iraq, why we went there in the first place, why Bush was allowed to steal both elections. most dumbass media consumers don't have TIME/inclination to get much past TV for their "news". As someone said, if it didn't happen on TV, it didn't happen
etc

I hope this backfires on them big time!
I hope the 9/11 workers ask if they can testify.
I hope this shines an even bigger spotlight on the lack of access to healthcare here.
AND, I hope it really shines a spotlight on the hypocrisy of the Bush admin for people who were previously oblivious.

I can't believe, given all of the PR problems, they want to go after a guy who is only trying to help the sick and poor. Whoever came up with this bright idea, just made a really dumb mistake.

(B*sh never actually asserted that privilege for Miers, you know- Congress just has someone else's claim that he did. Very irregular, and not at all legal.)

78. The current 'Murican healthcare system is REAL porn. |

The victims are everywhere.
We don't know how good the equipment works.
We DO know it doesn't work very well at all for most of us 'Muricans.

One of the worries MM and co. had around the time of the Cannes festival was that the film master and prints would be impounded by the assholes who've hijacked our government. The master was removed by MM and Weinstein to a "secure undisclosed location" outside the U.S. But that wouldn't mean much if the prints were taken out of circulation here because of the government's intent to suppress the film and prosecute Moore.
There will probably be a reichwing "grassroots" attempt to pressure theater chains to stop showing Sicko, regardless of whether the government comes after the film itself. The claim will be that it's UnAmerican to show Sicko since "treason was committed in the filming of this movie, and we are at war dammit!"
We need to think of ways to support Michael Moore, massively and soon. They don't have to actually win any case against him to effectively suppress his film. All they have to do is make him radioactive with accusations and criminal proceedings.

73. Mark my words: tomorrow's newspaper headlines will scream |
|
"Michael Moore Subpoenaed Over Cuba Visit" (not bothering to say who issued the subpoena), while mention of Rove's subpoena will be in small print at the bottom...if on the front page at all.

You've just made a martyr out of Moore, helped him promote his movie, helped his cause and made yourself look like the vindictive prick that you are.

94. American church groups go to Cuba quite frequently |
|
albeit in violation of the travel ban, but they go nonetheless for humanitarian/missionary work. They just can't go directly there so they go via another country in the region.
I want to go to Cuba and see what it's like for myself. It's a popular tourist destination for Europeans, even British.
