If the president won't obey the laws of the land, why should we? |
|
The most obvious answer is, they'll lock us up in prison if we dare to break even the most inconsequential laws. If any one of us started a war based on lies for money, we'd damn sure be arrested, tried, convicted and most likely executed. If we lie under oath we could go to jail for contempt. If we steal trillions, and lose billions we'd damn sure be thrown in prison, if we smoke a natural cigarette we lose our freedom, yet, our president can do any fucking thing he pleases and there's not a fucking thing we can do about it.
All of us obey the laws, or we pay the price. We are not above the law, but our president is? Oh well, it is what it is I guess. In America, only a small group of well connected people can break the laws, and all the commandments, and not give a shit.
All I want is a little justice.

Dominant ape on top hits his chest and cops run away, only to find small subervient poor apes to aggresively dominate.
And you know the message this sends to thinking people; it sure as hell isn't "obey the law and be good".

Presidents have been declaring themselves above the law pretty much since Andrew Jackson. If you want to get technical, you can go all the way back to John Adams with the unconstitutional Alien and Sedition Acts.
Insofar as official duties are concerned, Presidents don't get in trouble for breaking the law. Put another way as long as they are "protecting us" the American People don't punish Presidents for breaking the law. They do, however, punish them for petty crimes: see Watergate.
