Watching Waxman hearings on Construction of US embassy in Iraq. |
Watching Waxman hearings on Construction of US embassy in Iraq. Rep Issa called one of the witnesses a 'professional whistle blower' which Maxine Waters later took issue with (witness saying this is the 1st time he has testifies). Cspan2. They are talking of human trafficking, lack of medical supplies, lack of safety equipment, working 12/hrs day, low pay, managers pushing workers around. Seems the State Dept, which contracts out looks the other way.

2. This Rep. Issa sure is a jerk--He obviously does not think much of these |
hearings.
They had a person on who talked of the shabby work being done over there. Also a witness, a medic talked of the deplorable conditions for foreign workers.

4. Sounds like they are doing a pretty bad |
job of building that Embassy. Problems with fire safety systems, among the many others.

5. I'm glad Henry Waxman is onto this. I'm sure the contracting is |
full of problems, but beyond that, I hate the very construction of this thing. It is a monstrous Taj Mahal of multi-million dollar expense, an arrogant symbol of the Bush administration's intent to take up permanent residence as viceroys in Baghdad.

6. Maybe a good question for the Democratic candidates |
would be, which ones of them voted for the funding of this Taj Mahal. I watch the Senate pretty closely, and I remember way back when they were voting on this. I also remember when they were funding the money to build a new prison in Gitmo, Robert Byrd was the only one to spoke up against it. The rest of them voted for that, too.
