Chairman Waxman's Opening Statement

On Thursday, the Committee held a hearing to examine the performance of the State Department and its contractors in the construction of the new $600 million U.S. embassy in Baghdad. The Committee asked questions regarding the embassy compound construction as well as allegations of labor abuse through improper contracting practices.

1. They forgot forced enslavement and kidnapping of workers to take them to Baghdad
where they stole their passports and forced them to work and they had NO CHOICE.

That is what happened to individuals living in Africa who were forced into chains and put on ships to come here a couple of centuries ago.
