"Turkey's granary" has lost a large portion of the crops to heat/storms

Turkey is experiencing the hottest summer in years, with temperatures consistently far above seasonal norms -- fortunately the stifling heat will loosen its grip on the Marmara region by the end of the week. The State Meteorology Affairs İstanbul District Director Mustafa Yıldırım said the temperatures will start to drop to seasonal norms from Friday on -- great news for heat-stricken İstanbulites. Yıldırım noted that the mercury will eventually fall by as much as 10 degrees Centigrade, with a northeast wind blowing through until the end of the weekend and temperatures hovering around 30 C to 32 C. Some local governorships had announced that due to the high temperatures, any public workers who are pregnant, disabled or have cardiac problems would be given official leave during the periods of extreme heat. At the northwest Kapıkule border crossing point with Bulgaria, local governorships were forced to deliver water to those waiting to pass through the gate from Turkey. In the southern regions of Turkey, high temperatures have caused forest fires and economic losses. The central province of Konya, known as "Turkey's granary" due to its position as the country's biggest agricultural producer, lost a significant portion of this year's crops due to unusually low precipitation. Although temperatures are set to drop back to seasonal norms, forecasts say the lack of rainfall will continue. )

it will take another year for a new crop of food. if they are lucky and the rains come and the heat stays away. a big if.
