A caller on CSPAN just said that. He also said the investigations are a waste of time. I could agree with that statement. But calling Gonzalez a legal giant is just a bit over the top, IMO.

to going to the WH as counsel and then AG. Reno was the Dade County District Attorney.

21. Impeachment process is quasi-investigational

When in the House, the process involves hearing testimony and evidence to determine which charges, if any, to bring. Witnesses are called to testify, etc. After all the evidence is presented, the House votes on the charges and sends it to the Senate for the trial portion of impeachment.

It only takes a simple majority vote in the House to begin the investigation process.

Thats why some are unhappy that Dems are choosing to hold hearings and play footsie with Bush and DOJ, when they could be doing a more thorough job of it under impeachment.

To some, this choice indicates the Dems aren't planning to impeach Bush or Gonzo and want to simply "investigate" and run out the clock until 2008.

Some Dems support this method simply because they want Dems to get the WH and solidify the majority in Congress.

Other Dems want the impeachment method of investigation because it not only makes Dems look strong for 2008, but also because its an action that upholds the Constitution and prevents further erosion of rights, maintains high standards for ethical and legal conduct in office and preserves the balance of power between all 3 branches of government.

The non-impeachment route is a slippery slope - letting crooked leaders rig the Constitution to their benefit w/o sanctions.

12. I don't think the issue is how smart he is or his legal mind

The issue is his integrity and whether he can even once tell the truth and whether he's simply a marionette as Attorney General, willing to follow any order given to him by his Chimp. He could have the legal mind of a Benjamin Cardozo, but he'd still be a lying, obfuscating, immoral and unethical law breaker.

I'd rather have an absolutely average legal mind in the position of Attorney General if his/her allegiance was to the law and the Constitution instead of to political operatives like Gonzalez.
