Another Thompson resignation -- wife blamed
This from Politico

Another aide to Fred Thompson's campaign-in-waiting resigned last night, two sources close to the campaign confirm. Tom Frechette had been effectively serving as campaign manager Tom Collamore's deputy. Collamore was removed from his post Tuesday and given a "senior adviser" role. Like Collamore, Frechhette was said to have chafed under the heavy influence of Thompson's wife, Jeri.

Before coming to the Thompson team, Frechette had served for years as a spokesman to former President Bush. Collamore is also a veteran of the Bush 41 family.

Incidentally, Thompson was not asked a solitary question about his organizational challenges during his appearance on Hannity&Colmes last night. Perhaps because Colmes was not involved in the questioning.

What Fun.... Looks like we have another Katherine Harris in the making.

2. Bwah! Why doesn't SHE just run? She's the one with the drive and ambition--not him.
He's a lazy old fool who understandably doesn't want his cancer to come out of remission from too much stress (the sort that comes from a rigorous campaign schedule).

4. More like Nancy Reagan, I'm afraid
Sweet little Jeri has been a GOP operative for years and seems to have latched onto a largely passive conservative male in the hope of molding him into a conservative powerhouse in the style of the late, great St. Ronnie.

Nancy knew how to play the game and when to appear like the sweet little woman at home, birthing babies and baking cookies. Jeri wants to run things all the time.

I understand Thompson is also having trouble raising money. It seems this is one campaign that will likely be strangled in its cradle.

9. Colbert on Thompson
"He could be the first candidate to both declare his candidacy and withdraw from the race in the same speech."

13. That analogy does not hold.
Bill Clinton was well on his way when he married her. She didn't have to mold him in any way.

17. I was actuallly referring to the reagan analogy
Nancy stayed home but was quietly a power behing the throne. Hillary said she was not going to stay home and back cookies and was a power in the WH both as a policy and political advisor. And apparently was equally ambitious in Democratic Circles...

6. This is the greatest Republican field ever!
The laziest senator ever (who lobbied for pro-choice orgs), the Mormon former governor of Massachusetts who one tried to out-liberal Ted Kennedy, the unabashedly pro-choice former mayor of New York City, and the DOA campaign of "Angry John" McCain (aka Mr. Amnesty). Then all the also rans with zero name recognition and no traction.

If it were possible for none of them to win the nomination, this crowd could do it.

23. Wiki: Jeri Kehn Thompson
Jeri Kehn Thompson (born January 1967) is married to potential 2008 U.S. presidential candidate Fred Thompson.<1> She is a native of Hastings, Nebraska, grew up in Naperville, Illinois and was an English literature graduate of Indiana's DePauw University.<2> Jeri Thompson has worked as a political media consultant at the Verner, Liipfert, Bernhard, McPherson, and Hand law firm in Washington, D.C. Before that, she was employed by the Senate Republican Conference and the Republican National Committee.<1>

The couple first met on July 4, 1996.<3> They were married on June 29, 2002 at First Congregational United Church of Christ in Naperville. In October 2003, Fred and Jeri Thompson welcomed their first child. A second child was born to them in November 2006. Mr. Thompson also has children and grandchildren from a previous marriage (which ended in a 1985 divorce).

On the June 4, 2007 edition of the Morning Joe radio show, which aired live on MSNBC, conservative commentator Joe Scarborough created an uproar when he wondered aloud whether Mrs. Thompson "works the pole."<4> <5> Scarborough subsequently explained and apologized on June 11, 2007.<6> A July 8, 2007 New York Times article considered whether the "May-December marriage" could become a campaign issue, noting that "she is not a home wrecker" and is "accomplished in her own right."<7> The Times also suggested that Mrs. Thompson is a "trophy wife," according to what that term "originally meant." Mr. Thompson has in the past been at odds with the New York Times.<8>
